as arc said, we are users, users dont like change...

i like arc's idea, but it basically just puts it back to where we started which it sounds like you dont really want?

it was the same deal with the new facebook layout (like the way i always reference facebook? ), millions of users wanted the old one back but after a few weeks i feel its just become the 'norm', people just get used to whatever is around them.

a concern i would have is the new users, okay all the people who have been here for years wont just run away, they'll just get used to it. but the new users may be put off and intimidated by having never seen a forum layed out this way before....

you forget what its like getting into the swing of things when you join a new forum, its the same as starting a new job, there an aweful lot to take in!

yes, but with the cruical difference being that when you click on the main forum link, it shows you all of the posts - and it is actually structured using prefixes instead seperate forums.

but yeah, it would mean the likes below would effectivly work like they used to - good times

the main criticism from new users were there were too many sections and it was hard to navigate

Re: Prefixing, default filters?

Id like to say good work, I like it so far. Everyone should give it a chance and have an open.

By the way did someone have to go through and categorize every thread? :O

Re: Prefixing, default filters?

i like arcs idea that seems like a good solution

i like the concept of the new layout of the threads, and i can see how it would be easier to navigate, but i liked having the dedicated sections to each part better personally

it just seems to take longer to look for certain threads now and see what section they are from. thats probably just because having the 3 sections split made it seem smaller because you were automaticly filtering the threads going between the mini forums.

I think custard missed my in the OP. Say for example i'm heading to the cento section, i'll click on General, have a nosey at that, and then click on technical, but rarely click on 'styling' since i have little interest in bodykits and the like.

I have rethough my original ieda though, instead of having a default filter for each person (i can imagine that being a total PITA to implement), how about simply making the 'General' 'Technical' and 'Styling' text that used to be links, back into links, but linking to the filter shortcuts that are currently at the top of the forum.

That way it is all prefixed (how Ben wanted it to begin with), clicking on the main links gives the view of all the posts, but clicking straight on the links below filters it and brings up the ones from that 'section' like it used to?
Hehe - so what I said in paragraph 2 of post 5
