Hey,

Having thrown my Punto mk2 active sport across a roundabout two days after I got it (an expensive lesson at 17 :( - no lectures please), I got a new front bumper at my local "expert fiat technicians but-not-a-proper-dealer" place. The bumper is waay paler in colour than my broom yellow bodywork, and although only I can notice it (and only from the side), it really irritates me - so it needs to be fixed.

As it happens, its going in to the fiat bodyshop for a new rear bumper this week (thanks to some idiot who doesn't know what a braking distance is for - he's paying) and it seemed logical to get this sorted at the same time.

My questions: Is it possible to just respray the bumper, or would they need to strip it all back/get a completely new one?

Any idea on how much it's likely to cost?

No reply from the bodyshop as-of-yet.

Thanks,

Ben

Thanks for the quick reply - what does the blending process entail, and how much would it be likely to set me back? :)

Blending means they spray a thin layer of paint that the bumper is sprayed in onto your existing bodywork and as the name suggests they slowing 'blen' it in, meaning that it is not at all noticable, this is a fool-proof method especially with a colour like yellow. Should cost an extra £100 quid if you get the right people to do it for you as prep work will be little, only a litttle fine sanding and spray and blend :worship:

Ah okay, thanks for that.

If the bumper respray is at all possible though I'd prefer to go for that (or for them to blend the bumper, perhaps?) as I prefer the original colour on the bodywork of the car to the bumper colour, and would rather the metalwork stay unchanged, I don't have the money to fix things if there are any problems with resprayed body panels further down the line.

Might just pray for santa to get me an abarth bumper :(

Presumeably they can blend the bumper, too, though?

The whole point of blending is so that you cannot tell that the bumper is a differt colour and you also cannot tell that there has been any work to the metalwork on your car, it gives the same affect as a t-cut, it only makes your cars paintwork look a bit newer and unless you were a colour sensor for matching paints then you would not see ANY differnece at all. If it is done properly (which if the insurance is paying it shud b!) nobody in this world could tell.

Not a fiat  but its a good example of a good blend that my mate had done. Bit of a colour differnece in the new back bumper so he had to have it blended, can you tell? No-body can!

Ah ok, thanks very much guys (y)

Guess the official bodyshop will charge me an arm and a leg (the insurance is paying for the rear bumper, I'm paying for the front blend :( )

it it is way paler than the normal paint they may have used the new imola yellow (i think) that replaced the broom yellow , highly unlikely though if they used the correct paint code for your car

To me it looks way paler. Nobody else has commented. I'll post up some photos if i can find my cam.

No pics, but when I took it in to get the rear bumper done today, the fiat bodyshop informed me that the previous repairer had used "totally the wrong shade", and quoted me £125 +vat to sort it out. I'm not going for this, gonna try and take it back to the place that originally did it (two months ago now though) and tell them that having consulted a professional (who has managed to match the rear) i've decided their work wasn't acceptable.

Does anyone reckon I've got good chances of him sorting it out for me? Otherwise, I'll post the name of the bodyshop on here so that people know to beware.
