Don’t forget to tell your insurance company every little detail! I’m sure they’d rather not pay out if they could avoid it.

Have you read the full terms and conditions of your current policy? I haven’t – too much small print … I reckon they could slip in a flatulence clause and no one would notice. ;)

:D So I just called CIS (my
green insurer) and outlined my plans:-

35MM Lowering
Deadlocked/ Smooth Hatch with black rear windscreen
Opening rear windows (3 door)
SX / Turbo seats
SX / Turbo bumpers with front fog lamps

They made a note of my mods, the Underwriter made no adjustments to my premium, as performance is not increased. And told me to keep my receipts – just incase…

Morty Mort touched on this the other week and got me thinking… thanks Morten (y)

Ill call them back before further developments (that reminds me I forgot to tell them about the spoiler).

I wonder If I can finish my 1.0 SX`IE project (inc. rev counter + 14”alloys) with no extra insurance cost? I wonder what they will make of Rear disk brakes + vented front ones…

Regards to all – and good luck if you are tweaking!

Things like non standard wheels. tyres, exhausts etc can attract an extra premium not only beacause they may enhance the performance but also make the vehicle more attractive to thieves.
There has been a long running dispute with insurance companies over uprating suspension coils and struts although they can actually enhance the handing they can also disrupt the balance designed into the vehicle, hence its seen as potential risk.
Also insurance companies view drivers adding these modifications will push the vehicle to its limit and so are a higher risk.
So as Louie rightly says make sure u tell them of any mod as if you are involved in an RTA odds on they will do there best not to pay out, afterall they are in business to make money.

(y) --Cheers Pete, I was being a little less blunt. --

I reckon it could be more about what and how you tell them. I explained my reasons (to CIS):-

;) For lowering – a smoother, lower, safer ride and pointed out its cheaper than OEM parts fitted at a Fiat garage.

The fogs are to help me drive “over the top” to Rotherham – Theirs lots of low cloud days, so safer to have front fogs (exclusively to SX and Turbo as standard – hence Turbo bumpers).

The seats are for comfort – and safer as I’m less likely to get Blood clots on long trips, and die @ wheel + I Spinal injuries – so need the smoothest ride possible.

A Deadlocked boot Wi Black back window will raze some suspicion, and some skally will prob. have a go again one day. However, a thief will be lucky to Find owt as your Uncle Louie Bee has (?? Invented??) Quick release rear ICE. 3 plugs and the Ice is free. As they say once bitten twice shy. No real cover for Hifi gear – normaly 10% of car’s book value.

Again, black rear window is also safer for night driving. Headlights are getting brighter (I reckon).

Rear opening windows – Well I could have said they are easier to escape from lol.
:)
Now imagine if I were a bit of a B racer, and only explained these mods are to “make her look bad”– Maybe those 4 words could have cost me £50 or more…

I reckon two people with the same insurance Co. should test the difference. might make a difference with some...

N-u?

:D I’d emagine what they can do to survive in a cometitive world.

CIS are a not profet organisation – they do loads of good things for the environment – like planting forests to off set the co2 released due to their existence. And using only eco gas and electric (ecotricity).

Their banking arm will not deal with organisations linked to things like Arms, Tobacco, and animal testing… and campaign against cluster bombs – do you know they are designed so some of the “Bomlets” remain live on impact. This messes the land up till cleared wawy – yer 20 years later they still blow people to pieces…

Not to mention their work in the fair trade biz… :)

If you want to save a few bob and not tell the inurance company you could always bolt on quick release 20" wheels, Spoiler, sports exhaust etc and when you have an accident with the only arm that is not broken whip em off b4 the oldbill get there.
Just a thought to save u a couple of beer tokens lol
Pete

Ice???

Perhaps CIS should sponsor me for bigin' them up.

 Am I using the wrong phrase – ICE - I thought It just meant High End Audio Gear… I lost about £450 worth of sound reproduction bits out my boot a few years ago (Thieving Buggers) – was not worth claiming on insurance so total loss. I don’t keep speakers or amps in the car overnight… just for special occasions.

If ICE means
wheels, Spoiler, sports exhaust etc I must be looking silly lol. I’m not that keen on the spoiler TBH

Louie Bee.

Just checked mine with norwich union, and Im not even allowed to mod mine  I bought it online and says NO mods! 500quid with 2 years no claims is excessive enough! oh well CIS it looks like next then. spesh with the uno turbo :D :D

Re: Ice???

Not if they are quoting me 2000 for a 1.8 (with only 95BHP!) (inc. 1 years NCB and the all but useless Passplus - would be better if I had kept driving though I guess as would nearly be at 2 years NCB)

I conned my last insurer to give me an extra years NCB for my pass plus in paper. So i have 2 years NCB and pass pluss all acting on my behalf. Although pass plus only really counts in the 1st year. and 2k is about right. woulda cost me 1800 on my GF's 1.6 16v escort. Shes only started driving - no pass plus and she only pays 1200! Thats less than what i had to pay 1st off on my Uno 45 999cc!

Online Quote will lead to

Why did they tell me to keep all my receipts if I’m not covered:rolleyes:? Ill have to read the small print…lol ;) (The Negotiator)

I can’t remember my sauce – sorry if that’s you – :p but I heard no one will quote online any such modified vehicle.

To actually get the quote online, you’d have to have “Nothing to declare”.

When you then phone their service centre they have a good excuse to raise the premium. I wonder which car insurers might offer there call centres advisors a cut of an increase which pass un-haggled for; if you’d of said “TO MAKE HER LOOK BAD” --- not CIS so it seems so far. (y)

:bang: wish CIS had a Non 0845 (Local rate number) On T Mobile (ONE to NO-One) pay-as-you go they charge standard (MAX) rate - Same as for the Free phone 0800 Nos. I call the number I was given to call in sick with, and ask whomever answers to transfer me to “Mota Quote”. – save loads

I’d best plug a link to CIS
http://www.cis.co.uk/servlet/Satellite?cid=1069672144680&pagename=CIS/Page/tplPageStandardCIS&c=Page

CIS Deserve it ?

PS They give new customers - especially ones with no previous CIS Business / Co-Op bank cross sells bigger discounts (walk into co-op bank and maybe the Late shop and get referred on)- so its always worth checking them - Oh credit - 11 months int bad - on a direct debit all you have to do to renew is nothing.

Regards 2 All,

Louie Bee.

Re: Online Quote will lead to

I know but TPFT I have been quoted (8 times now ;)) by NU online at 760 (+/- £5). It's a 1.8 but only 95BHP (old engine design) but against it it has a factory fit CD, A/C, ESR etc. the specs are high and it knocks it up £100 over a RN (lower model) for some reason just on TPFT.

Previously when people said "NU are cheap" i hadn't been able to agree, they weren't for me, but right now, they are. I mean they would do me a 899 P-reg cinq TPFT at £440 albeit good postcode and low mileage, 1 years NCB.

Louie - generally with companies that ask you to declare mods but don't charge you extra will "return the car to the standard state using standard parts" in the even of an accident, I don't think CIS is any different.

CIS's non 0845 number: 0161 887 8885

Got any pics of your car Louie? I might have seen your car around...

Have u got 14s yet or will u be getting them soon?

Picks

Hi Chris,

No Pictures at the Mo – I would really like some before and after picks – but no beans for a camera…

I’m thinking of asking CIS how much if I drop 70 SX-IE – not many wi 3 Doors.

I could let any under 25 driver have a go for an extra £5 per month – As If :)

Is that an agent’s number or direct into CIS’s Mota’ IVR? The agent would get P’d off if everyone called - They tell you to call the Service Centre and check any way…
