Low boost: -£1000+Vat

Includes: -

Boost piping
Electronics
Plenum pot
2nd injector
Manifold
Downpipe
Sports cat

to modify to high boost then you need

thicker headgasket & fuelling setup - again

well worth doing.

time to start saving after crimbo

Plus add in about a £100 for an oil cooler as any turbo car should have one. I'm waiting on a reply from MOCAL on a guide to a decent set up on my Cinq. as every car I've had with a turbo as standard has had some sort of oil cooler & I feel the lifespan of the turbo must be well short without one. :)

PS as an aside, my hi boost turbo has low compression pistons to achieve the higher boost settings (y)

I've got a Mocal 235mm 10 row cooler with thermostatic sandwich plate. Need to use a Clio 1.0 (I think...) oil filter for clearance, had to cut the thread down on the filter mount to get it on though! Cost £140 IIRC.

Having seen the way the oil temp rises with boot, I wouldn't run one without.

Oh, and Fordy - to go high boost you need an intercooler and the ignition timing retarding too.

Ooooppps forgot about the intercooler! mines got one!

MOCAL still haven't replied to me yet, but I had been looking at their 10 row cooler (OC1103-12) £34.22 + take off plate with thermostat (OTSPI) £31.50 but I asked them about the depth of the take off plate & about over braided pipes about 40cm long?? Where have you located your cooler in relation to the front of the car, did you put it to the right of the intercooler (i.e. when facing the car) or somewhere far more cunning?

At present I'm running a Renault 5 GT Turbo filter as it's very shallow, but wide with good filtration properties and spec'd for a turbo car, needed if you've ever seen the clearance in the front of a 5's engine bay, which has left me with a fair amount of clearence to get the take off plate in there, I think

as far as i know, pete's hasnt got a intercooler, but i know that it does start to get a bit cramped even without

Ah, I'll just have to go with what I think's best then cos at present the intercooler, which to be honest isn't very big, sits on the right hand side of the car (when facing car) and obviously the rad's on the other side, ideally you want the oil cooler to be as close to the take off plate as possible but theres so space apart from next to intercooler, but then I could run it behind the cooler.

Mite have to play around with a cardboard mock-up to get a better idea of size, placement :)

Still think it's a bad oversight by Van Aaken not to include this in the conversion (n) even small capacity non-turbo cars like "ahem" MG Metro's (I had one as a student) and Peugeot 106 Rallye's have an oil cooler.

i have got an oil cooler off a fireblade and an intercooler from a volvo (iirc) i would take the car to van aaken for the timing and fuelling setup but everything else i will do myself, i thought it would cost a lot more than 1175 quid to turbo it. well surprised!!

has anyone ran a 6speed box and turbo?

One thing I would watch with the intercooler is, if it's too big, you will make the turbo lag more pronounced, the one I have fitted is Van Aaken's own which is smaller than the one I had on the 5 Turbo, & about half the size of the one on the integrale. I know that this is a problem when people move to aftermarket intercoolers which are bigger than standard, they are surprised when the boost doesn't start coming in till maybe 200 - 400 rpm higher, which when you have a turbo is noticeable. Yep, mines a low boost 1242 without intercooler. The oil cooler is mounted horizontally across the front of the bumper grille, in front of where the charcoal can used to be. Big long pipes to it, m'afraid.

6 speeder? Don't do it, gearing's all wrong and it can't handle over 120 brake (allegedly).

Thought I would re-open this thread to update on the info I got from Mocal with regards to oil cooler. As I have limited space due to the use of an intercooler I have had to go for a 115mm by 19 row cooler (it means I have to sit the cooler to the right of the intercooler but in direct flow of fresh air) given the engines details I gave to Mocal this was what was recommended. If you go for a non intercooler low pressure turbo like Pete then I would use the cooler he has which is 235mm by 10 row, tho they give near enough the same surface area. So I would check the Fireblade cooler you have to see if it matches up.

Pete's cooler (figs from Mocal site) 248.5 mm * depth 77mm = 19134.5 mm2
Mine 128 mm * depth 147mm = 18816 mm2
