Right, handbrake cable snapped on me today, and need a few other bits i was about to order from shop4parts anyway, but went on to add handbrake cable to my list, and found they list 2 handbrake cables but dont state the difference other than year? was there actually a difference in the later cinqs handbrakes? or do you think i should just go ahead and order one and hope for the best? or alternatively can anyone recommend somewhere else i can try?

Buy a fiat one.May cost you more but its worth it. Fitted Plenty of non-gen ones before some fit o.k some dont fit, some are to long and need adjusting right up, and they just dont operate as smooth as a fiat one, if you know what i mean ?? .. This is one thing i would recommend a genuine part for. ;)

I don't know if there was a diff, but having owned a late 97 Cinq with Sei stalks etc and having driven a few other Cinqs the handbrake was much much better in mine, I could easily lock the back wheels up and it was progressive not like other Cinq handbrakes I've encountered that seem to nothing, nothing, nothing, then hold a little bit as you pull it up. This would suggest that there was a change, are Sei handbrakes better, seeing as you had one?

dont think it'd be fair to compare my sei's handbrake to the cinq's (sei 4 years old and 28k i think compared to the cinq) but the sei handbrake was amazingly good (y)
Why not, my CInq had nearly 60,000 on it and I could easily hand brake turn in it if I wanted. The one in the Imola is rubbish in comparision but then most seem to be which leads me to think it was updated and therefore has the same parts as the Sei.

yep.just to add,shop4parts only sell parts made by suppliers to fiat.so you buy at a discount because it does not say fiat on the box. (y)

according to eper, the design was altered on Dec 10 1997. So any cinq made after then, has the same setup as the Sei handbrake wise (y)

Cheers Arc for confirming what I thought, which was that the handbrake in my red Cinq was diff from the Imola as its feels very diff in opperation and it actually works.

I wonder how hard it would be to change over the handbrake to the latter one. Does the EPR give an indication as to what actually changed?

I'll copy this over in the Cinq section.

Aaron.
