Re: Daylight Running Lights

I've not seen any on a Sedici Piers. You can get aftermarket kits but to me these only look half decent if they're fitted to a profressional standard in an appropriate place that the manufacturer would have used. All the older BMW and Audi cars I see with aftermarket kits just shout 'I couldn't afford a better one' to me..........

Re: Daylight Running Lights

In these darker months I don't see any issue utilising the front fogs with side lights. They don't dazzle and provide improved and widened lighting. Plus they look cool lIMO!

Why you need wider lighting?

They do dazzle and are illegal. You should only use fog lights when there is fog, clues in the name . People who use them as 'driving' lights should have them permanently removed along with their licence.

That'd take half the drivers in Coventry off the roads then.

Proper DRL's are indeed a rare sight retro fitted to cars, it tends to be those very dull, and very blue little Xmas lights people drape in various squiggly lines. These provide no safety enhancement, and to my eye certainly don't improve the looks. If these people were taken off the road as well as people with fogs on all the time, we would be left with maybe a hundred or so drivers in Cov

Well that would help congestion  shame the police never seem to have the time to enforce the law and only use it as an excuse to stop motorists when looking for other stuff (drinkers, drugs etc.)

Re: Daylight Running Lights

Not enough time or can't be bothered? I see too many infractions on cars that look like they've been driving around like that for a long time without being stopped. But I definitely agree using fogs to replace DRL's is out of the question, even if it's foggy visibility has to be a lot worse than people would think before legally being able to use them.

I'd personally just upgrade the headlight and sidelight bulbs to something a bit brighter and whiter.

Re: Daylight Running Lights

95 % of drivers who get dazzled by the lights of oncoming vehicles, are those silly buggers who stare right at them, and then write a load of rubbish in forums.

So if I were to drive past you with my high beams on that would be OK? Presumably because you are not looking at them you would be fine I'm sure... Laws are there for a reason especially regarding road safety and it's the people who violate these who are the silly buggers.

Re: Daylight Running Lights

So says the guy who doesn't think he needs to change the beam for European driving. You obviously don't worry about other road users anyway.

Re: Daylight Running Lights

It would not be an issue with me, I would turn my eyes away from your lights, and the effect would be no worse than a lorry on dipped beam.

You are wrong about the Sedici - the Sedici front 'Fogs' are a 55W bulb which is the same as the headlights. They are not angled upward and do not dazzle - they give no more glare than the mains. If they dazzle then a replaced bulb has been refitted incorrectly. In some versions of the Sedici handbook they are referred to as Driving lights. Daylight running lights are alot brighter - thats why Audi etc. have to dim them when the driver is indicating. The widened illuminated light lights up the kerbside alot more effectively. The higher ride height of the Sedici means this area is not so visible than on a normal ride height car so is alot safer for both driver and pedestrian.
I agree about the rears - people seem to use them in any slightly misty condition as an excuse to actually put them on.

Re: Daylight Running Lights

Daytime Running Lights (DRL) that ae factory fitted switch on front lights only not rear.
Surely the solution here is to simply use dipped headlights and wind down the height adjuser so no-one is dazzled.....
