I'm trying to find a car alarm for my new shiney GP when it arrives, now I'm not so much interested in an alarm that will lower my insurance (not that I'd be complaining) or one that will stop it getting stolen, what I really want is one that will keep the little chitebags in my area away from the car and stop it getting vandalised (I did do a search for vandalism). Also I really don't want to carrying around two key fobs (gp has the key built into the fob) so are there alarms out there that can be disarmed by your cars standard fob?

I really don't know much about car alarms and I had a look around but couldn't much that was useful. So I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions?

Also anyone know any good installers/suppliers round the Bromley/SE London kind of area?

not too sure about working with the gp key fob but heres cliffords alarms web page give them a call tell them your needs

ask them all the questions you need answering remember they work with these systems day in day out so know what best too advise on

you pay for quality !

you can get car alarms that activate and deactivate by the flashes your indicators make when you lock with the standard remotes., its usually one flash for open and 2 for locking so the new alarm is programmed to understand this as its wired into the indicator lights., as far as which to choose, any car alarm is good as long as its fitted properly and that people react to it if it goes off., even the best alarm is usless if nobody bothers to pay attention to it.,

when you say vandalism, what exactly do you mean? because the majority of car alarms wouldnt react to somebody keying the car, they would go off if someone smashed the glass or broke into the door.,
thats where proximity sensors come in, they detect the movement around the car and they make a chirp noise if the persson is hanging around it., then if they dont go away the alarm will sound., trouble with these is that anything can trigger them., a cat, dog, plasic bag or just kids playing outside, they tend to cause more attention to your car than detering people from it in a lot of cases., maybe if you are worried about parking outside your house you could fit a small camera to keep an eye on it.,?

anyway., good luck with it(y)

Don't fiat do an alarm specifically for the GP?

According to the Lineaccessori brochure :

WFS alarm*
Modular alarm fully managed by
original radio control. The product is
permanently connected to the vehicle
can bus and includes anti-intrusion
protection for the doors, the bonnet
and the boot, it is also equipped with
ultrasound for volumetric protection
of the passenger compartment, a
panel sensor and wfs siren with an
independent supply. The connection
of the alarm to the vehicle electrical
system is facilitated by the modular
structure and the small number of
wires to be connected and by the
wfs system which has a connection
between the control unit and the
siren without having to pass
additional cables from the engine
compartment to the passenger
compartment. For vehicles with
original remote control.

What about this one...

If you watch this google demo vid, you will see Craig go to his car and attempt to just look in the windows to see whats inside, the microwave detectors pick up his approach and set off a warning sound via the siren and also 'page' the pager to let you know that someone is near the car..

The second video shows Dan's Astra that was fitted with the basic remote start alarm (without the add-ons) and shows the remote start in action and then Dans Brother attempting to get in the car once its started (windows were left down on purpose for the filming of this video, Dan did not have the total closure wired in on his alarm).
