I have a scudo taxi TW200 new shape. I have problem with battery going flat. first the battery warning light came on followed by abs , power steering ,and stop light. Changed battery with no sucess then changed alternator same thing happened no charge in battery. Then changed starter motor . Does anyone have any idea what I can try next as its proving really expensive.

Find out where the drain is!

With ALL accessories switched off, ignition off etc, connect an ammeter in series with the positive supply lead and see what current is being drawn.

If it reads zero (or thereabouts) there's nothing wrong with your vehicle other than the battery isn't being charged - i.e. the alternator is dud.

If it reads 'something' then check back here with the reading and I'll take a stab at what it might be.

You can check the alternator by measuring the battery voltage with the engine off and on.

When it's OFF, the battery should read 12.2 to 12.8V (anywhere inbetween). If LESS than this the battery is flat and requires charging.

With the engine RUNNING the battery voltage should read between 13.8 and 14.4V. If not, the alternator is dud.

I had someone down to test the alternator and discovered it wasnt charging the battery possibly the wrong alternator. Changed the alternator again still doing the same when you run the car the display reads "electrical fault " then the battery runs down followed by power steering abs warning light comes on . Surely this alternator cant be faulty as well. Any suggestions would be welcome.:bang:

Check to see if there is a connection between the alternator positive output post and the battery positive terminal.

Sounds like the connection is wrong - has it been disconnected before?

I don't have a wiring diagram for this but I would think there must be some kind of circut breaker between the altenator & the battery ie relay/mega fuse maybe even an external regulator?

Thank you very much for all your help finally sorted it out by putting the third alternator on it and it is now running perfectly . I bought the alternator from local motor factors. It just goes to show no matter how much they insist its definately the right alternator it obviously wasnt. I was lucky enough to have kept the original alternator so could match it up perfectly. Thanks everyone who replied.:)
