Removing Qubo roof rails

I've posted here because the Qubo forum doesn't have many visitors.

I need to take the factory roof rails off my Qubo Dynamic so that I can get it into my garage. Anyone know how to undo the fixings? I assume that I need to remove the plastic mouldings to get to the screws.

I've been clearing the junk out of my garage to make some room for the car, but I realised at the weekend that there's less than an inch of clearance (garage door is 1.8m, car is 1.78m), but the slope of my driveway means that the rails will catch the underside of the door.

The garage needs a new roof, so I'll be rebuilding it in the summer, and fitting a bigger, roller shutter, door.

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

One screwdriver one allen key, and a large bucket of boiling water.
The plastic covers split in the middle and then slip off. revealing the allen screws.
undo the 6 screws, 4 front and 2 rear, and remove rail.

Prior to doing any of this contact your dealer and get them to order 15 plastic blanking screws. Let them sit in the hot water before fitting or you may find that they snap whilst screwing them in.

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

Thanks for that, Highlander. I just ordered a new Trekking and had an interesting time convincing the delaer that I didn't want them on my car. I asked if they could be left off at the factory and was told that's not possible. They agreed to remove them (at no cost, no less) before I accepted the car.

For me the issue was fuel consumption. I drive 30 to 35 K miles a year and didn't want the extra 2 to 3 percent increase the rails would bring as I don't expect to ever use them.

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

Wow, just came back to the forum after a year away, and saw the reply. I solved the problem by buying a new house, with a 3-car driveway but a smaller garage. The new garage is also full of junk, but if I ever clear it, it'll house my MX-5.

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

I had a very near experience with my Qubo roof rails. Recently moved into new house using Qubo as removal van which it did really well with the rear seats removed! Backed the car into the garage and unloaded it. Then realised as the weight came out of the car the suspension rose trapping the rails against the garage roof. Doh!

Made me chuckle there.

What did you do to get it out,
get the family to climb on board, or let the tyres down?

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

has anyone done this lately? I was wondering if the blanking screws can be found anywhere apart from a FIAT dealer? just an ordinary auto parts place?

Re: Removing Qubo roof rails

apparently you can get black or white, I need black. I may try other dealers to see if they have them in stock tbh although I don't hold out much hope in that.
