I have recently bought a 1995 n-reg 75sx. It was fine for the first few hours but now I am getting a slight rattling in 1st, second and third gears goin up to 30mph. The noise disappears when I push the clutch down to change gear and then reappears when I release it.
I have seen on on this forum and others that other people are having similar problems and are suggesting that it could either be the gearbox as a whole, the gear box bearings or something to do with the clutch. Any ideas as to what the problem is and how much it may cost to repair?
Any help would be much appriciated!

I have just bought a 99 punto 60 sx. i also have a rattle that goes with the clutch down. i have just had a new clutch and i have been told that it could be a noisy clutch housing or some sort of bearing. I know the clutchs go on punto so it might be that.

I have same problem on my car now, and a freind of mine also had it! noise disapears when clutch is depressed! problem in both cases was the thrust bearing on the clutch! Eventuallt this collapses completely (as happened to my mate) and they u cant get the car into any gear!

Taken my car to the garage, been told that its the gearbox and that it will be fine as it is. I have had an additive put in to the gearbox oil that makes it thicker and helps dim the noise. I could have had the gearbox replaced but was quoted £700 inc. labour so I went for the additive option.
I hope this helps you if you are experiencing similar problems.
