How easy is this? For someone that knows nothing, is it possible to do? I have a haynes manual and it shows me in there, it's one thing that is the same as other models ( can't use it for the engine as doesn't apply:rolleyes: )

The nearside window stopped working, something to do with a kink in the cable according to my friend. I got a replacement motor and cables etc, and I have had the panels off before to see what was up. When I did this I noticed the motor was kind of behind a fixed panel. So am wondering how on earth I can do it myself,

I simply cannot afford to pay anyone to do it for me, enough to worry about with paying for the engine at the mo.

Any advice?

Thanks

Jen

:( I am in same prob at the mo, the panel is weld'd/glued to the door it cannot come out, the motor and regulator are more or less as one, and held in place by a load of 10mm bolts around the door, then I get stuck, the haynes manual says about removing a plastic pin that holds the glass to the window regulator, HOWEVER, I err snapped it and from what I can feel its pretty solid in there, not moving anywhere.

my car is a manual window job, nad converting to leccy windows (for pedestrian's saftey;) ) has anyone done conversion? I spent nearly 6full hours in the yard today removing almost the entire interior wiring harness without breaking anything, dash out roof out, carpet up type job, my fingers are hurt bad (carpet burns):(

anyone help (us both!)

Just had to put new motor on mine saturday so i,ll tell you how I did it.
1./ Remove door card.
2./ Undo 3 x 10 mm nuts securing window regulator to door skin.
3./Now regulator is loose manipulate it to an accessible point after unplugging connection.
4./ The motor is connected to the regulator by 3 small phillips screws. 1 at the top and 2 at the bottom, remove these and gently wiggle or twist the motor out (that part i found awkward).
5./It is advisable at this point to re-connect the motor to the window switch just to check that the motor IS dud.
6./Fitting of new motor is the reversal of above.

This may not be the correct way but its certainly easier than removing all of the window mechanism.(y)

you just peal that off, if it rips fix it with parcel tape

nope not that bit, sorry. Yeah I got past that no worries. It was a metal bit that was in the way, it was behind this. Been a while since I actually looked, so can't remember exactly what it was, but even my friend said, 'ah, thats going to be awkard'..piffle

However thank you Matt , I can but see again if I can do it . Will give it a try when the weather is less wet:D

you realise the motor is attached to the up n down runner bit? you remove the whole lot as one

yup, got all that. Will give it a try again, and if I do get stuck again will show you what I mean. Sorry not very good at describing what I mean

Rubbish!! The motor is attached to the regulator(mechanism which winds the cable up and down) on a mark1 by 3 screws. YOU DONT HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHOLE LOT AS ONE:p (n) , youre just making more hard work for yourself.
Believe me, i know what im talking about, i had to do the job only yesterday morning(saturday)
I reckon if you follow my smple instructions redfairy youll find it awkward but easier than removing everything.:slayer:
My only other word of advice would be to check that the plug to the motor is firmly in before you start removing nuts, it might save you alot of work!:D

ah yes, see rolf harris style drawing... can you tell what it is yet?

hee hee I will give it ago, I managed to get as far as the motor last time but didn't take it out as didn't have the replacement then. Was having a look see.

I guess if I get stuck all I have to do is put it back together and sweet talk someone I know;) ...or indeed buy some guiness!

Will report back if and when I get it sorted

But thanks all for the advice
