Hi All,

just put the engine and gearbox back into my 1.2 Selecta, and cannot work out where a pretty substantial bracket connects.

it looks a little like a dog bone, and is about 12" long I think it might be designed to stop the engine spinning? My friendly local Fiat service centre cannot remember where it goes either!

can anyone help please? regards Richard

is this actually a mk2 punto rather than a mk1? sounds like you are describing the rear gearbox mount on a mk2 to me..

number 11 in this?

hello Blu, many thanks for your response, and sorry for the delay in replying - the 'dog-bone' is just a straight piece of tube. with each end flattened, and turned through 90 degrees, about 30cms in length. I have been driving OK without it, so it remains a mystery. Even my friendly FIAT dealer couldn't identify the correct location. (Delay in reply was due to trying to upload a picture from my AppleMac -had to give up in the end!) regards Richard

Hi all, finally sussed the location, quite by chance. It's a support bracket for the a/c compressor!
Another problem please - just changed the powder clutch/torque converter, and had lots of trouble mating the engine and gearbox, I assume from the splines not easily meshing. Now the engine will only turn about 1/3 of a revolution in either direction. Any clues please? regards

A selecta..with AC.. youve certainly got a rare car there :)

Rotational issue..

Ive never worked on the CVT but it sounds like mechanical interference.. on the direct crank drive...

What did you need to remove?

Flywheel??

Hello, thanks for quick reply - it's a 1.2 cabrio with full leather so very rare i think! i didn't have to remove the flywheel, the clutch bolts straight on, and when turning the engine, it'a very abrupt clunk....

well, there's no logic to this, but the flywheel was snagging on the leading edge of one side of the lower bracket. goodness knows why it would suddenly do this, when it hasn't been disturbed. Anyway, fitted a spare flywheel, and Bob's your uncle!

i'm thinking of first locating the clutch onto the gearbox shaft, as it's easy to line up the splines, and then attaching the box to the engine. i can then bolt the clutch to the flywheel - bit fiddly maybe, but can anyone advise if this is possible?

I guess the Selecta is different to the manual as you can install the bolts to the clutch after connecting to the engine, and this worked a treat. Back on the road for the summer! Regards Richard
