I am trying to help someone with a Mk1 punto P reg 1.2 8V he had the head gasket replaced about three weeks ago, the head was skimmed at the time.

It drives good but there is now a slight oil seepage from where the head gasket has been fitted, it looks moist on the engine block but not running down it.

Just wondered if after three weeks can the head be re-torqued just to clamp that gasket slightly or is this a no no ?

hi, not advised, ;)

IMHO if it's leaking..it's been done badly

I've NEVER need to skim a head.., and never had a leaky one either:rolleyes:

who did the change, did they use new bolts?..not strictly necessary;)

If the head gasket leaks oil it surely show other signs of faults.
There other sources of leaks near the gasket that make someone think the leak is from the head gasket.

thanks for the replies, from what I understand it was done by a garage who now are the kind of people who dont want to know about any after problems, not sure if new bolts were used.
When I get a chance I will have a look to see how much oil is showing, from what I'm told the rocker cover downwards is dry so not coming from there.
I just wondered if the head could be torqued after a while.
Not sure if the head is re-torqued after a while or is after a head gasket is replaced or is it only done once ?

once.. ;) and only once as the bolts are supposed to be lightly oiled..,
a chance that's gone after a few hours at 100'C - so a re-torque would be a bit sketchy..

The stated technique is a LOW figure

( think "screwdriver tight" ) +90'

then + another 90'

VERY easy to end up with a slack one ,
( I've got my own method which hasn't created any issues.)
