Hi there, I just bout a fiat punto mk 1 5d. I had other cars which i use to work on ,but where not fuel injection . So this is going to be a challenge for me to get familiar with . The first problem is that it is rich, and there is no sign in dashboard lighting.

Re: *** we want to hear from you *** fiat forum 2013 ***

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Re: *** we want to hear from you *** fiat forum 2013 ***

check the coolant temp sensor with a multimeter, correct ohms can be found in the haynes - mines not to hand atm. but if thats not working then the ecu thinks car is cold so runs full choke as it were.

Its a blue connector on the inlet maniold assuming you have a Punto 55/60 ? ?

I got a same problem. New ECT, new O2 sensor, new cat,new exhaust, new MAP, new coils, new sparks.. Still too rich for "eco" test. Failing mot, of course...

Why do you recon it's running rich?

The SPI cars do run rich when cold.

May be because the orange light is fequently switched on :D.

Mine is quite often lighted up.

then get the codes read, that is the engine management light - could mean one of many many things. Or get the leads to connect to a laptop and download IAW-Scan, google search should find, its free to download and free to use.

What engine are we actually talking about here anyway, thats usually a good start.

The car seemed that the engine had been dismantled and re assembled by the seller or some one else.
The job was not finished and sold the car .

I took the car to nearly 5 or so called mechanics, after seeing and trying to trace the fault, some saying replace that sensor or the other and some saying leave the car for further checks.

After a hassle trying to find a good and sensible person
I found the right one ,
This person works on ECU`s
Made an appointment and took the car , plugged his ECU`s programmer after a while switched the ignition on (not the engine) and continued resetting ,started engine.
And in 10 minutes was ready as new.
The ECU needed a rebut.

Thanks to all who tried to help. NO SENSORS WHERE CHANGED.
