Well yes, those panels are worth a lot as they are expensive, but still need a turbine to cover for low light and use a guiding system to track direct sun. For us punto owners a cheap solar panel put on the dashboard tracking the clouds will not do anything in the middle of winter.

What about at night when its not windy, does it go off or does it have my mouse idea as a backup?

By the way this is not a debate, is just a realistic view of what you should expect if you thinking in investing in cheap solar panel. The system will probably have a battery as backup that can charge when is sunny or windy and use the battery at night.
 
you could trickle charge through the cig lighter with one of them solar panels i have seen in the shops... no idea how long it will take from flat and as i mentioned before overcharging batteries is bad and a solar panel will not stop charging once its fully charged..

Battery charger is not alot of money just go buy one.


These will only work on fiats if you put them straight onto the battery switch the ignition off and it isolates the fag lighter... if its isolated it cant "back charge" via the socket........ ;)
