lee

thanks had a look at pictures of them both they look the same :D

nice mk1 with a 6 speed box :)

it will defo bolt on. You can even bolt one on a sei/cinq but it hits wheel on full lock and i think you have to change the cups over so the driveshafts fit. Not sure about what will need swapping over in your case - i got a GT and not really up on the lower models other than the fact alot of it is similar to cinq/sei's which i do know if that makes sense.

ye it does just having a problem with second gear goes in in the rest of the gears as it should just wont go into second not sure if it out to do with the gear box just easier to replace

What's different from Punto, about the Cinq/Sei one, that it hits the wheel?

AFAIK the mk2 5sp and 6sp boxes have about the same top ratio (so the 6sp just has closer ratios, not higher 6th) but both those are higher in top than the mk1. That means that a mk2 6sp in a mk 1 will give 1st to 5th ratios similar to a 5sp mk1, but with an extra-high 6th beyond 5th. Nice for the M-way.

Anyway I thought all mk2 Sportings were 1.4 not 1.2.

the 6 speed box is bigger (read longer) than the 5 speed, so on a cento the wheel hits on full lock thus you need steering lock reducers on to stop the catching. Loads of room in a mk1 bay though so sure it'll be fine. On cento you also have to change the selector mechanism over and i think the driveshaft cups. I never done it though so this is all from memory of what i have read on here over the years. So some of them things might need swapping over as well.
