I have a Punto 60 team 99 reg and it been fine but two days ago when i turned the key I can hear a rapid clicking (this is under a little black cover at rear off engine bay, think it a relay/solenoid) and the key code light goes on and of at the same rate, but nothing else happens (no power to the starter). I can bump the car and drive it (everything works) but cannot start it, so I dont think it a code problem. This isn't a starter motor problem, it certainly the wiring before. Can anyone give me clues as this may be a easy to fix fault that you may have had ( I suspect something like a dodgy connection/earth loose/relay fault/damp connection etc etc), if so a brief description of where the item is. I am getting a manual today.

Stick a single jump lead between block and chassis. Choose shiny metal bits of each to check for an earth problem.

The Code light is on?
But wont start under its own juice - but will bumping it?

Sounds like the immboliser is playing up - but the imbo could be not earthing properly = fault light - but still starts?

I'd be checking and cleaning all the earths anyway, always a good place to start

Thanks for the replies, jump lead between engine and battery earth and that solved the problem, have now checked earthing and now starts fine !
