I've bought a MK1 sporting, the key had no battery in it so I've replaced it and when you press the button the light on the key illuminates for 2 secs then goes off. I don't have a clue what the button on the key is for, anyone tell me?

Why won't it work

The receiver is by the electric window controls, make sure it's connected.

I didn't think remote central locking was available on the Sporting!

I got it on my elx, but never used it on the sporting so dunno...as I don't have a remote key for the sporting...but the box is in the boot just the same, I'm fairly sure it does have it

If you do have it and is not working, then it probably need to be programmed into the box (if you have one) but that would require the 4 digit code that, when I got a replacement, came on the fob on a lil bit of paper.

Where is the box in the boot? I'd like to see if i can get mine to work!

It's under the speakers at the side of the parcel shelf, on drivers side...right opposite to where the light is....if I remember correctly without having to go look
