Anyone had trouble opening their boot with the key? It's just my punto, my bro's and my sisters (yeah, we're coooool) all have a problem with the boot lock. You can't even get the key in on my sisters! Does anyone know of a solution for it? I've took the lock mechanism apart, but couldn't do anythin with it...

cheers in advance(y)

Is it possible that someone has attempted to break into all three of your cars via the boot? Using the old screwdriver technique, it is possible that they have disturbed the pin settings in the process, hence the fact your keys do not work.

aint had problems with my mk1 boot, but mines got more rust on it than the rest of the car!,noticed that on other ones too.......that answers ur question dont it!,not!

I've had this problem, at one time I couldn't get into the boot at all cos the release catch snapped too

For the lock, just spray plenty of WD40 in it and give it a few minutes. Then put the key in and give it a jiggle, it should open.

If you use the release catch often and use the key less and less the lock tends to get 'sticky'.

I had this same problem, and it was a result of a screw coming loose that held the catch mechanism together. I solved this by removing the mechanism from inside the boot, once you have it off, remove the plastic cover and you should see whether the screw that holds the catch tight is loose or missing. Mine was rattling around at the bottom, so I put it back and wd40'd the entire mechanism for good measure. Now the boot lock works fine!

In short, remove the boot mechanism and check for a loose screw!

Hi all

thanks for all the replies. I'd discovered the loose screw and tightened it so im gonna go for the wd40 approach. I think my sisters has jammed up completely cos she uses the cable all the time.

Cheers people
