Hiiii Everybody!
Hiiii Dr Nick!

Joined this forum after picking up a 1994 Punto SX 1.7TD.

It all seems in good order other than a couple of faults
  • Sun Roof is stuck closed, but not leaking (can get a sunroof for £20)
  • Heater matrix is only blowing hot or cold air onto window, but not through all the other vents.
  • Rear window heater not working (fuse)
  • Rear washer squirter not getting water to window.
  • Rear light needs bolt, some how one of them is missing!
Those things I can live with, it's an old car and I expect little problems that I will go round each weekend.

But my main question is about the running temperature.

Even on these hot days it's running around the 1/4 and sometimes under, I've done some long runs on the motorway and been stud in traffic and it still will not raise much further than 1/4.

Is this a problem, I've found limited information on here and else where that it could be a thermostat problem. Does this need fixing ASAP or will the car be ok until I can source a new thermostat?

She still starts fine, runs fine and returns expected MPG.

Any help would be great. (y)

I've just got an Haynes manual from ebay.

Turns out it is the thermostat causing the problems, so next on the list is a new thermostat (any idea where I can get one of these and at what price?) and a flush of the cooling system.
