General how easy will a 20VT fit in a mk1?

Dont think i can be botherd with it lol, scrap man will be coming for the coupe on monday, i took a CD autochanger out of it though :D

drilled some holes in the airbox so it's probably faster than the 20VT now anyway :p

i mean the exterior of the block the actual casting and mounts are identical obviously the crank throw bore rods pistons and stroke will be different it's a different displacement i wouldn't expect them to be the same

and you would need a diesel sub frame not petrol for the gearbox rear mount to work

basically I'm saying i have never done this so can't tell you every single detail but i cant tell you it can be done with off the shelf fiat parts alone apart from the exhaust would need a few mods

and no one said your stupid and don't know anything i'm sure your very talented

No the punto diesel rear G/box mount is offset to the nearside end of the subframe and coupe/tipo is bang on the centre and yes i have been using standard fiat bit which most hav just bolted on but it will need fabricating at some parts

and the front driver's side mount has oil ways going through so you can use any other mount on that side or you will hav to Block and re-route the oil ways for the oil cooler that bolts onto the mount
EDIT: this is tipo subframe in the punto

see the left front mount with oil filter and cooler attached to the front mount. The oil ways travel through the mount get to the filter/cooler so you need this mount to save loads o hassle from makin it all from stratch

well as i said block is the same as diesel there fore depending on year gearbox will be the same a 510 so punto diesel gearbox mount will hold it cope gearbox mount will obviously be diferent but ths can easily me removed and swapped

could even bolt engine to diesel box but ratios would be all wrong for it

there's no need for a different sub frame realy

just a question how are you mounting the timing side of the enginethis will tell me why your having to change so much

well i could use diesel stuff, but if i did that i would need diesel D/shaft which are shorter but f**k that i got a tipo and no other car like the diesel. so i bolted on the sub frame which is way wider and will looks mental with the wide arch kit and stead o using spacers.

the top mount for stabalizing is not needed but will be used. the front passenger side G/box could be changed but it works fine same with other side which just bolts to the chassis leg but right forward as it can go down the underside of the chassis leg yet again if u remove front near oil filter ur in for loads more work

with the subframe being bolted straight on i gained powersteering and a thicker antiroll bar (much thicker btw) and the suspension and brakes all bolted straight on (now thats a quick upgrade for the 2ltr brakes and suspension(koni's))

wot ur saying is too source loads o different parts to make it when i say use wot u got cos it works and at least all the parts iam using are designed too handle the 2ltr engine and not have to worry about breakin things i.e crap diesel parts that are not made for the job in hand causing it to SNAPS or BANGS

well i will be using proper bit made for the 2ltr cos i dont cut corners (only when drivin lol) and want it to last

just a question how are you mounting the timing side of the enginethis will tell me why your having to change so much

and how will this tell you that i have to change so much. you can see the suspension canister on the drivers front mount, well see thos 5 bolt holes well it bolts to the underside of chassis leg just like tipo/coupe

Edit: see the subframe is used for the pivot for gear linkages so that also save time and money sourcing out new gear box. if use the tipo subframe i dont need to worry having to find the cabled version the gearbox too

well it's just if you bolt a diesel water pump on the block you will gain an engine mount on that that will bolt straight to the car were the diesel did meaning it's mounted in the middle of the block meaning no need for top mount and the gearbox will then line up it's mounts on the normal subframe

also coupe brakes can be easily fitted to diesel hubs
from there on punto turbo anti roll bar and after market performance suspension would be good

so are you manufacturing your own mount for drive belt end

also the 2 litre engine could not break diesel parts there way to solid to cope with the torque a diesel puts out

also the car will be much lighter than a coupe so not much strain on things anyway

:yeahthat:

I really want to see how this progresses

but i have already started and done quite abit o work on it, it would oh been better if i started the project thread when i started doing the car.

but if there is ppl out there who think i should start a thread then i might just do it

(show of hands lol)(y)

scotty, i see your even causing arguements here lol. I sold scott (fiatFXR) the tipo and have helped him with the conversion, in turn he's helped me with my tipo lol. the engine is in, twas far easier to BOLT the original sub frame to the punto and the ORIGINAL suspension from the tipo to the punto, thus saving so much extra work fabricating new mounts etc etc. everything needed was taken from my old tipo. all scott needs to do now is bascally re-loom the car with the tipo loom and voila 1 running 2ltr punto, then all out again for a good recon lol. TBH it hasnt been the most hardest of conversions, just fiddely as its a tight fit lol. Scott knows his stuff about cars and when we've finished the conversion on this, we'll be doing it again, when i buy a punto lol
