Yes this is a daft question but ive removed all the screws, and used the allen keys on the handle, but i just cant fathem out how to remove the window winder

Also can somebody tell me why the door opener has stopped returning to its origional position when pulled. im guessing it has something to do with the spring, but couldnt get the door card off to check it out

cheers

if you push the door card away from handle and look into the space between you should be able to see the end of a metal spring clip(turn handle slowly, its there)use long nosed pliers or i found that a bent piece of wire to get hold of end and pull --once clip comes free the handle will simply pull off

I'm reviving an old thread here. A search pulled it up for me but I need more help.
I have a 1996 5 door Punto 75 (lhd)

My passenger side outside door handle is also not returning to it's normal position after pulling it up, and if the passenger doesn't remember to push it down, the door flings open on the first left turn

I had a go at removing the door card, thinking that maybe I just need to oil something - I had no problem with the screws and red pins (nor with window winder as mine are electric), but after removing all of those, the door card is still fixed to the door at the top end, and I can't pull it out far enough to actually see what is going on inside the door to try and fix it without fearing that I'll break something.
I blindly sprayed some WD40 in the general direction of the back side of the door handle, but that didn't help anything.

So my question is - how do I get the entire door card off?
Do I just need to pull harder? Do I need to remove something else first?

And of course - maybe somebody knows what the easiest fix is for the sticky door handle?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Wow, very old thread! Good that some people do use the search function though :thiimb:

I not taken a mk1 door card off before but on other cars i have done you need to pull it off the bottom (nearly always push on clips after you got all the screws out) and then they are hooked over the top hence it won't pull out from the top.

my seicento has this issue, been meaning to sort it for ages. But i would guess either the spring in there is no longer positioned as it should be and you can just put it back (probably fiddly) - or the spring needs replacing. And then use some proper grease to grease things wd40 is only ever gonna be a temp solution to oiling something.

Thanks. I also thought it might be hooked over the top, so tried pulling it upwards, but also that got nowhere. There's a rubber strip over the top and I tried prising that away, but also here stopped for fear of causing damage.
I'm sure it's quite simple (most other things on the Punto are). I just need a pointer on the technique from someone who's done it before.

Btw, I was also moderator of a cars forum for years, so having been the one telling people to search first for so long, the least I can do is search myself before asking ;)

This is from memory.

Remove phillips screw behind the interior door handle.

Remove 2 hex bolts from interior door pull.

Remove all philips screws from the door bins/pockets.

Unclip all the door fastenings by pulling the door card sharply away from the door.

Use a flat blade screwdriver to remove electric window switches from door pull and disconnect from electrical connection.

Remove exterior mirror handle plate.

When everything else is free - Tug door card upwards sharply lifting it over the door lock pin. The seal on top of the door card should lift right off the door when pulled hard.

i'm getting towards having done just about everything on a cento now but it has taken about a decade and owning 6 or 7 cento's lol.

Had the punto what, about a year and so far changed the rad, some vac hoses and some plugs and leads and thats about it so far. Although as you know, that list will increase soon enough lol

OK, thanks. Looks like I really wasn't pulling hard enough...
I assume I need to remove the rubber bit which covers the mirror handle before I can get the plate off... I guess it's safe to assume that also this one I just have to pull hard?

Yes, the panel sits on a edge of the door and is held with clips (the four doors are, not sure about the two doors would think thier the same!) pull up at the lock part of the door and follow down to the mirror.

That remins me I have to reseat my rear nearside panel, I think the clips have gone or not holding the panel I notice this over the weekend, when having to remove the front nearside panel to fix the electonic window, it was not dropping, had to remove the window motor and cable, well the complete assembly, found that the white plastic guide was caught over the end of the metal glass slider, sorted and refitted, only took half an hour to do.(y)
