Hello friends,

I am from Romania, I just bought a yellow Punto Cabrio ELX that has a lot of problems, because i coudn't find another one in my country.

It's overheating, It's eating a lot of fuel (arround 17 litres for 100 kilometers) (someone told me that is from the Lambda sensor...)

The exaust is broken...

The electrical roof isn't working but the electrical engine is buzzing if i press the buttons

The airco isn't working and lots of others.

My bigest problem is that it's leaking oil through a hose that comes out of the engine and enters into the hose of the air filtrer.
And that hose is broken at the entrance in the engine.

As far as i know through there it should be only gases, not oil !
Do you have any ideea why it's leaking oil through there ? Is it normal due to the brake in the hose ?

The engine compression is 12, 12, 12.5, 12

And... i don't have the original keys (i don't know how important this is)

Many Thanks,
Alex

I would get the housing thats broke replaced first, this could be the reason of poor fuel consumption and with a broken exhaust dosnt help either this will give you bad fuel consumption as well, so i would rule out the lambda sensor for now untill you replace the housing and exhaust first. For the overheating is there any white mayonnaise under the oil cap? Does your water coolant look dirty or smell of fuel/oil, when you turn your heaters on, and set it to hot is it blowing hot air or cold? Can you hear your radiator fan coming on at all?

The main ones you wanna fix first would be the..

Overheating, Broken Housing & Exhaust

Hello

The oil looks fine under the oilcap, no white stuff there :) ... The fan is working, it starts cooling, but the temperature stays over the marker, in the middle of the second half, towards the red spot. I was thinking i should bleed the sistem. The car hasn't been serviced for 2 years.

I just orderd the hose and the exaust. The parts are verry expensive here :) for this car and can be delivered only by external order, because punto's are preety hard to see, mostly mk1.

I also orderd the oil, oil filter and fuel filter and also the sparkplugs because it's starting hard (about 7 seconds, mabe 10 for the first ignition).

We'll see after the change of this parts.

Many Thanks

There is a Guide at the top of this forum, it will give you pictures and instructions how to bleed your radiator it could possibly be just air locks in the system or maybe even the thermostat is at fault. Dont forget about the air filter that also gets replaced on a yearly service, before you replace the fuel filter i would buy and run some fuel injection cleaner through your tank that will clean the fuel lines and your injectors ect..

This is going to sound really patronising...but when you try to open the roof...you HAVE undone the catches that clip it shut before you push the buttons haven't you?

For now I'm using the hand power to get the roof down, the person who sold me the car said that he disconnected the engine that moves the soft top.

I hope this can be fixed, because I have a brand new soft top and i want to install it to the car.
