General Remapping the 8v

hey all, thanks for all the comments, very useful but i realy don't want to start with a new cam, head, manifold etc, firstly with the car being fairly new, and i plan on keeping it 1 year more at the most, just wanted a quick 7bhp from a cheapish remap, im sure somewhere quoted a 7bhp increase.

i'll try the companies mentioned in this thread (y)

Beware that you may not actually feel the difference. Although if they are doing a proper re-map, they may increase the torque which will make the car more drivable. That would be something that may interest you more?

so hold on a second guys, im in the same vote. my punto mk2b 8v is standard at the min. if i went to get me car chipped/remapped what kind of bhp difference am i lookin at? would it only be like 10 bhp
cheers Mikey

If that to be honest. Put it this way. Coupe is 220bhp. Even with a Live mapping session it goes to like 260.

Thats 40bhp. Thats 20% increase on a turbo car.

20% on a 60bhp is 12 bhp. But its no turbo. Lookin at 8bhp i would reckon.

if you only want a few bhp you better of with the gsr induction and super sprint exhaust if you selling car in a year at least you can take them off and sell them first

Ever thought about loosing weight? the car I mean :p

depends on what you want, theres loads of stuff you can take out to make the car "slightly" quicker like stereo, lining, parcel shelf, door panels, seats.

Depends if you could live without some of that stuff, oh and it doesnt cost you a penny and can be put back in when you want to sell it ;)

Forget this remapping lark for std N/A cars especially small capacity run abouts designed for city driving. These 'mappers' take your money and you really dont know what you have paid for. 6-8 bhp you wont notice, you can't even really measure that on a rolling road. Save your money for a future car.

All you can do as mentioned is an air filter, and exhaust and treat it to some good oil.

get a quicker car. there's plenty of cars out there that are cheaper and quicker. theres plenty of older cars with plenty more grunt than a newish punto. and even if its the older punto without the grill (better looking). decat is probably the best way to gain power. although yet again that'll be around 5/6bhp if you're starting with 60bhp. if your looking at getting another car soonish i'd just forget about it and save the fun for your next car.

This list is far more extensive than the list posted previously.

Any graphs to back this up ? Also how did you time your 0-60 time?

Your now saying with all that work done, you expect 110bhp? Yet with less mods earlier you said 130bhp was possible.

Im not trying to argue with you. If its possible, yes i wanna know how you can get 100% extra power from an N/A.

Bump?

Sorry I don't get to read all posts on here as most of my time is spent elsewhere.

In short the car was running this spec:

- Stock Punto 75 cam
- GSR Ported and flowed head
- GSR Induction kit
- GSR Raised compression approx half a point to 10-1 (standard 9.6-1)
- GSR 3 Angle Valve Cut
- NGK 7 heat range plugs
- Supersprint exhaust manifold
- Sports cat 200cell with extended lambda wiring
- Supersprint centre section box
- Supersprint Backbox Twin exit
- 6 speed gearbox

It made 105bhp on the first go, but the plugs were too cold when the fueling was corrected (more fuel = cooler engine temps = too cold a plug cokes and misfires) so it was leaned off to make 94bhp, with the right plugs I reckon it would of made 110bhp, which is why with more mods this is the min I would expect.

The block is not taking much more than 130bhp so I would not want the mapping pushing it as high as this (the ignition advance can be as much as 38degrees with no problem, possible UPTO 45degrees peak but not for long, we tested this with a 16v engine just supersprint exhaust, decat and gsr induction, we got 136bhp with full ignition advance but the block would not take it so we took down to 119bhp for safety.

0-60 was not correctly timed as I was due to go drag racing 1 week after the accident so I have not made look at me posts claiming anything, but by my estimates (which are very critical) just driver around 8 seconds sometimes just under with a good launch but with a passenger around 9 seconds. (it was a 2 seater weighing a realistic 700kg without driver)

This is how my car was 97.9bhp and 95.6lb/ft

ENGINE MODIFICATIONS:

- Green Induction Kit (modified with larger filter and cold air feed)
- Ported and Gasflowed head very basic flowing with a slight skim (C.R. 9.6:1)
- C&B 280 degree cam
- Supersprint 4-2-1 Stainless manifold (heat wrapped to reduce losses)
- B&M sports catalyst (stainless monolith @ 200cpsi)
- Peco full stainless system
- NGK iridium plugs
- 8.5mm Magnecor leads

All i was saying, was that there is a lot more work involved than your original post.

Where did all your performance parts go?

Yes but I had setup the car incorrectly ie wrong plugs. with the correct plugs I knew it was capable for more hence my post.

Shakey also should of made much more but I think his cam timing was out too much and he also needed a better exhaust than the peco, things I know he is aware of anyway.

I'll comment... Angel Tuning aren't that good they'll use a generic map on the 8v gains will be minimal, also you don't get before and after figures for power/torque.

100bhp is a relatively easy target

-Andy

Sorry, as I don't know your real name, I cannot find in our details when you used us and on what car of yours that we put the generic map on so as to confirm the details you mention.

If you can you tell us when you had the work done I can see what was put onto your car and I can back your story, as I would hate for you to embarrass yourself, by going on hearsay and something told to you by someone else who was told by a mate, who met someone down the pub who once had a MK1 Escort that was chipped by Angel Tuning that the chip fell out the exhaust so they cant be any good......
