When going over speed bumps, pot holes etc there is a banging noise coming from the back of the car or more of a "clunk" i am wondering what this could be as i could see no immediate problems?

any thoughts> suspension bottoming out? shocks?

do you own a mk1 ?

if so

stand behind your car and check if the wheels look like the following |---\ /---| or /---\ they should be |---|.

also if you jack the car up and tug on the wheel either side and then from top and bottom if you feel play/movement the rear arm bushes are gone.

if both of the above are fine it could need rear subframe modification bushes to take up the play created in the bushes over the years.

"yeah agree with goldie sounds like classic radius arm/bush failure on mk1 puntos"

Yeah i have a mk1 sporting. is this a serious problem and is it costly too fix?

6 months ago i paid £220 for a new radial arm, 2 New shocks and some other sundry work. So not to bad.

parts have become cheaper over the years, you can buy repair kits cheap for the rear arms £15 a side or rear arms for around £40-£50 each (non gt) and the rear subframe modification bushes are about £20 the pair.

can you get these parts of ebay or is it safer just dealing with a garage?
