And 2.25k for a 54 plate mk2b isn't bad but as you say will probably need alot of work doing very soon .

£2.25k over the top of a minty private

So that was probably somewhere along the lines of £6k then?

From what I have seen the 1.8 is slower than you would expect it to be in standard form but with a few tweeks it has the ability to play with the BIG BOYS.

However as F4T and Chris pointed out, they dont half drink petrol  Motorway driving seems to return a pretty decent MPG figure from what I have been told but if you just blasting it back and forth around town then dont expect to get very far on a tanks worth of petrol.

Im looking to swap my 1.2 8v mk2b for a Bravo HGT 2.0 20v 5pot soon so it looks like I will be having competitions with Danny HGT to see who can get over 30mpg average from a tank lol

Before my map the mpg was around 28mpg going down to around 19mpg! when ragging it. Now its 38mpg and only goes down to 32mpg when thrashing it.

I agree about it feeling a bit slow when standard, it feels tight and strangled like you know there should be more there, basic breathing mods make the world of diffrence(y)

my HGT (with a dodgy variator) doesn't feel that slow. The thing i like about it is even when you are doing 90 there is still a kick when you put your foot down in 5th.

They are very nice cars to drive, the engine is very smooth and has a very nice noise above 3500rpm.

But the fuel consumption is dreadfull (i get 24mpg average, and i drive like your grandad most of the time). it drops to 23mpg in stop start traffic and the best i get is usually 27mpg. Untill the variator recovers though, Then i get a massive mpg improvement (28-30) and a MASSIVE power improvement (loads of low down torque and a brown trousers moment at 3500rpm). When i get the variator fixed and a couple of other things done, and fit few toys, i will be a happy man.

I have no hesitation in saying that, apart from the mpg, the HGT is the BEST mk2 punto

Similar symptoms on on my Alfa when the variator was knacked. Absolutly no torque low down and outragous fuel economy I think mine got as low as 17mpg. I think once you get it fixed you should get about 30ish :).
