Hi guys and girls,

Noticed on my Mk2 Punto 1.2 ELX that the engine uses alot of oil. I topped it upto the correct level a month ago, checked it last week and it had very little oil left in it. The low oil light has never once come on since ive had the car to indicate that there is a problem. Does this engine just use a lot of oil or is it something else. Theres no blue smoke, no leaks etc etc

Any help and advice would be great

no they don't normally use oil


and the warning light will only come on when oil PRESSURE drops below about 0.1 bar, by which time some serious damage will have already occured

That's right - engine oil doesn't get used up, but rather stay relatively constant over a long period of time. Have you checked where you normally park the car for leaks?
