i have had my fiat punto 1.2 active sport 16v for just a few months now its an 04 reg and still is within the 3 year warranty, on saturday the exhaust started getting really loud and i used it once more on sunday and the back end (box and bit of pipe) of the exhaust fell off :( i still have the exhaust bit in my boot but i doubt you can do anything with it  , do i need to take it to a fiat garage or anyone that fixes exhausts and i assume this is not covered in the 3 year warrany??

can the car be driven to a garage like this ???

Being so close to xmas :( roughly how much is this likely to cost me - parts and labour as i know nothing about cars at all :)

thanks

Goes quickly doesn't it? Just before xmas last year I had taken my car in for it's 3rd year service, they advised me it was slighty corroded but was OK for a few months. New Years Eve left home and noticed a deeper rumble coming from below, straight away knew it was the exhaust. Within 30 miles it broke and fell off! About the same place as yours, just before the back box.

Sadly I don't believe it's covered under warranty however considering you've only had it a few months it maybe worth giving some grief to the garage. They are supposed to check over the vehicle and ensure it's road worthy condition. So if the exhaust was suspect, why didn't they at least warn you? Worth a shot.

For getting it fixed, avoid Fiat, charge you double. Go to any exhaust specialist in your yellow pages but avoid Kwikfit cause they are useless. Can't exactly remember how much I paid but should be comfortably under £100. You can drive the car but keeps rev's down and limit your journey.

Loud isn't it? :p my zorst fell off within 2 days of buying the car. took it back to the garage who I bought it off and they changed it for me (y) welded a new back box on.

like Si said I'd give the dealer grief and if you have no luck take it to a zort specialist and have a new back box fitted.
