Hay all, hope somebody can help me.

I know nothing about cars, my dads just bought me an R Reg Fiat Punto 85 ELX. I took it for a service and was told cam belt, front breakpads and air filter needed replacing. Had the breaks and belt done by a friend of my dads, then the clutch went, so thats been replaced too.

Now I'm having issues with the revs/acceleration of the car. The best way to describe it is that the rev's seem to skip and then drop down while I'm accelerating, meaning I have to skip down through the gears to get the car to accelerate properly. And then have to keep it in a lower gear than seems reasonable to stop the car from jogging and slowing down.

I'm willing to give some DIY mechanics a go as I have to learn at some point. But have no idea where to start, does anybody have any suggestions?
