this is for my girlfriend. she currently has a 54 plate active sport which although looks pretty cool is to be quite honest the slowest and worst car i have ever driven. I have suggested that she get an older but far superior HGT. what are these like? im not a fiat person myself, as i have a polo G40 but i must admit ive always liked the look of the HGT's and with 140bhp? they must be fairly quick? your opinions appreciated. cheers
dan

I have to agree with u the older mk2 looks better than the mk.5 the hgt is 130bhp, theirs many clean example out their but id only buy one in mint condition.
The price you'd get for a 54 active would still leave you a few grand left over once you bought a hgt, their a very fast car althou for the engine of that size their are faster cars around in the same group due to its weight, but they do come fully kitted out as standard.
But what you'll find is that if ur saying its the worst car uve driven this will be pretty much the same just alot faster.

If the gf aint arsed about power, id keep whats shes got the active sports keeps its book price better.

What put people off the HGT was the insurance. From Mk2.5, Fiat did a Punto HGT JTD, which could do 50mpg, and had much lower insurance too. Of course, not all women (in fact I reckon very few) care that much about how fast a car is, or how it handles. They're more interested in the colour and cost, and how much shopping fits in the boot (at least that's what my wife and her friends care about).

cheers lads some interesting replies. she loves the active, for the reasons you have mentioned i.e the colour and creature comforts but i think she would like something a little more pokey. at the end of the day the car aint for me so whether i like it or not doesnt really matter.

like mentioned she may be able to sell the active and buy an hgt and still have some change, so ill put these ideas to her and see what she thinks. thanks for the speedy replies.

why not get the sporting version? mk2. sell the AS and still have some extra cash, imo the mk1 sporting is great for a 1.2. plus itll be easier on insurance and petrol saving her yet more money.

and as for women not caring about handling, speed and just about colour and cost..... you not met my mum! lol. colour, shopping pah use my dads car for that :p (mum used to have a mk1 escort mexico when she was bout 20ish and wants an ERST now )

she is a girly girl but she loves being in my G40 so much she wants something with a bit go for herself. im a bit confused about the marks of punto's. which mark is hers if its a 54 plate active sport with the updated front lights? she had one before but that was the one with the more aggresive front lights. i think thats the shape hgt she would want.

mk2 lights are the square rectangular ones, mk2.5 are the larger rounder headlights

a 54 would probably be the mk2.5 with the big headlights, black grill and reflectors on the boot lid

you can pick up a 54 active sport 16v if you lucky, other than that it the poxy 8v - which i think is pretty poo with a car that size, it wouldnt pull you out of bed

i have a 16v active sport in murano blue, it a good ride, and i dont really have to flog it get anywhere, but coming down from a g40 then you will notice the difference
