I've got the 1242cc 16v engine in my Sei and it's had all the machining work done on it (flowing and balancing), it has engine management, throttle bodies and a proper exhaust system, but I'm trying to find out what else might be possible.

Do any of you guys have links for 16v parts suppliers?

I'm particularly thinking about cams, but I know that the design of the cam carrier makes it difficult if not impossible to mod the cams too much.

thanks

That's just a remap - already got a DTA ecu that's been setup properly. It's putting out around 120bhp at the moment.

I've had the head flowed, a little skimmed from the cams, the pistons and rods are balanced and lightened and it has a knife-edge crank and lightened flywheel. Cams and dry sump are the only other things I can think of at the moment.

Been there with the 1.2 8v - never reliable enough. The aftermarket kits for the 1.1/1.2 8v are a bit patchy. The 1.4 Uno T engine has been used by a couple of people.

Trying to keep it NA, although might consider a supercharger if I could find a way to run it (not much room for the drive belt) - they don't generate the same amount of heat as a turbo.

I've got a custom manifold for the throttle bodies, what improvements would you suggest to that?

Water expansion tank gets in the way of taking any belt direct of the pulleys and moving it is a bit of a problem.

I believe you cannot do much more.

Maybe route the TB inlets via tubing to the lower front part of the car to get a ram air effect.

Also, try some cooling on the air inlet like the ice box on dragsters.

Maybe you can install a bonnet scoop to achieve the ram air and cooler air effect.

Try upgrading the ignition system to get a better spark.

And last take another look at your ecu maps cause with all the mods you did I am seeing 120bhp as quite a low figure.

An airbox is definitely on the cards.

120bhp is a figure derived from an early mapping - it's been remapped since, but I don't have a power figure from that, I just know it runs a hell of a lot better. It'll keep up with my mates 160bhp Elise upto 115mph (digital reading from driveshaft rather than vague cable from gearbox).

I know you can get cams for the 1.4 16v, so I was wondering whether anyone had heard of anyone doing them for the 1.2. I know there's a problem with shimming them though because of the head design.

Cheers for the input though guys.

that sounds a lil stroppy.. sorry for not knowing your engine 100%

re the expansion tank, puntos have them on the side of the radiator don't they - maybe something along those lines to relocate it?

sorry - wasn't meant to be stroppy.

I have the throttle bodies mounted on a custom manifold that angles them straight with the ports, I was just wondering whether you knew of a better way to mount them.

no worries, tbh if i'd thought about it - i would've known it'd be a custom manifold.

I don't know a better way of mounting the throttle bodies, getting out of my depth here!
