Can anyone help.....when turning ignition, the starter motor doesn't make any noise at all.
Battery was flat, new 2 years ago Bosche, now charged but still not even turning over.All dash lights, wipers etc working.
It's my 51reg 1.2 8v btw.
If its a fuse, which numbers should I check?

Firstly, check all wires on the starter are firmly connected also check the signal wire is okay. If all good then try tapping gently with a hammer on the soleniod (which is the top part of the starter) while you get a friend or family member to crank the engine while you tap it. If this fails then it could likely be a seized motor not unusual for that to happen as its on the firing line of the gunk from the roads.

If all fail then take a trip down your local scrappy and pick another starter motor up and fit it, they are relatively easy to fit just make sure you disconnect the battery before working on the car!!!

Check earth. Try rallycinq's old trick of udng a single jump lead between battery negative and a solid metal point on engine/box.

Check battery by substututing known good one. If good one works, get battery stress tested.

I suspect a burnt out earth?

the signal to activate the starter motor has snapped

Rac jump started from their van, booster pack didn't work.
He reckons starter motor needs replacing, drove it home about 20 miles, starts good as gold.
I'll try again tomorrow but hopefully just a weak battery that needs replacing rather than the starter....
