Recently I discovered that the engine in my car isn't the original :( expecting a 188A4.000 engine code I found a 176B4.000 engine code, I checked the vin number which is ZFA188000 and the number below the engine code on the block doesn't match the log book. So I looked around and found the engine would of been from the punto 60 range and a spi set up. I've been told the cylinder head and manifolds are different. However I have the plastic black intake manifold with the 4 injectors. My problem is that I recently purchased a p75 fully ported and polished mpi cylinder head (with 866 cam) and am now concerned that it may not fit/work properly and the same for other parts I've brought ready for the engine overhaul.

Has anyone seen or heard of this before?

Thanks

i think you will find that they will have put the original head onto an earlier block
garage friend of mine had a punto mk2 with a seized block i gave him a very low mileage siciento engine (1100) im pretty certain he changed heads on that too
he reckoned car went fine

You may have an sPI bottom end with an MPI head. The only point of concern is that earlier SPI blocks didn't have the lug for the knock sensor.

Apropos the P75, I'd be inclined just to swap the cam.

Issues are:

the p75 engine has no cam sensor
the p75 uses a complelely different kind of injector (different impedence) and not the short, Pico type
it's said that the plastic inlet manis are better than the aluminium ones.

You will need a remap -- might be an idea to try and fit a bigger TB at the same time -- one from a 1.2 16v engine mighr be a good choice. Try and get the whole inlet mani as the mountings, although the same style, are different.

In any event, unless the head has been ported by someone competent (with a flow bench) chances are that it is worse than stock.

Late Seis are MPI too -- head is identical to Mk2 Punto,

its only a microphone so could easily be adapted to fit the block so it picks up pre detonation
im sure weve covered this before:)

on a different engine i was reading in a trade journal where worn dmf's cause the knock sensor to record error codes and associated problems because it picked the clunking up

ok so during my cylinder head swap i found the knock sensor,

it would appear that a longer bolt was used on a mounting bracket to attach the sensor
