Hello, I have searched the forum so apologies if it's already posted.

Suddenly, my 2001 punto has started making a extremely loud noise from what sounds like the exhaust. It is definitely not normal.

When stationary, it sounds like a Harley or something, also when moving.

Would be grateful if anyone has any ideas what it could be. Also is it safe to drive?? Thank you.

Erm, at a wild guess it might be part of the exhaust system that is blowing In all seriousness take a look under the car. At the very least put your hand over the tail pipe & listen.

Yes, it most likely is the exhaust. Could've hit a bump or something and caused it to crack or something has fallen off.
Check under the car that everything is still attached and try to find where the sound is coming from.
Also can try holding your hand under the exhaust pipe to find where it is blowing. !! Make sure the car is secure before you do this though!! Don't want it driving over your hand.

Depends whether the exhaust is going to fall off, bounce down the road, and kill some poor biker or pedestrian................
