I have recently changed the CV joint on my punto and was surprised to find that my tranny oil was scarly low, which is weird because I had 3rd and 4th gear replaced not long ago by a fiat specialist.

I have filled the gearbox oil up again and noticed a very small about around where the drive shaft goes into the gear box.....

Have i not hammerd the shaft back in enough or do the seals go easily?

They are known to go, but it is far more likely that the input shaft seal in leaking into the clutch bellhousing.

Is that easy to fix myself?

No, for ease of fixing, I hope it is the driveshaft seal. The fact that you have recently disturbed parts in this region makes this more likely than usual.

is the driveshaft meant to be flush with the gearbox because there is a gap....apart from taking it apart is there a good way to tell?

Oh and it is the passenger side of my HGT the small leak is coming from if that helps :S

Anyone know if its worth using an extended allen key to remove the drive shaft by hand from the gearbox......or will a allen key bit for my impact wrench risk damaging anything?
