Hi again

The base of the aerial on my Punto has managed to snap somehow (the metal shaft inside the roof-mounted housing, the removable part is fine). My Fiat dealer tried to put it through as a warranty item (there is no way that force/ abuse etc. could snap it), but the 'computer said no...'

Anyway, not only is the part £15  but the dealer said it may take an hour to fit which sounds like Horse-sh!t to me. Can anyone tell me how to fit it as I will give it a go myself. I am guessing I can remove the interior light (mine has the reading lights) as per the owners manual, and I should be able to find the nut for the base of the aerial from there. Not had a chance to have a look today, but if anyone could confirm I would be most grateful

Cheers

Thanks for the info guys.

I had a go today after work but discovered the aerial base is nicely placed above the motor for the electric sunroof.

Looks like I will be removing the headlining (appears to come off with removal of the sun-visors), the bracket holding the motor and the motor itself. Should be easy, but I have a habbit of making a mountain out of a molehill :p

My aerial base on my Brava came loose and I had to go through the sunroof motor to get at it. Managed to fix the aerial up fine, only problem is the sunroof is a bit jerky now but it wasn't a big job. I always maintain that if I can complete a job then anyone can :). Only problem was aching arms while trying to refit the sunroof hole back into a hole that seemed far too small!

Thanks for the info Helz. It was quite an easy job in the end removing the a-pillar trim, sun visors, sunroof surround, headlining, electric sunroof motor and then (eventually) the aerial. It all went back together too!

Having had a look Helz, if your sunroof is a bit jerky it sounds like the motor might not be positioned spot-on so the gears are not quite 100% in-line. It might be worth re-fitting the motor as it took me ages get the screws to line-up and ensure they were not cross-threaded. (y)

There is another option if you do not want to go down the rout of fitting it yourself or going to a Fiat Dealer. Visit your local Stereo retatailer.

I went to my local one and he fitted a standard punto aerial in under 10 mins and cost £20 fully fitted.

Bloody great, mine has gone too ! The Haynes 'book of lies' made it look like a 5 minute job, however when i looked 'across' the roof line I could see that the antenna base was in line with the Sunroof controls not the interior light.

Even though I've just spent £16 at the dealers this morning i think I'm gonna bodge it with some black electrical tape (again) until i can summon up the energy...

Well it took me nearly 3 months to find that spare time. Pretty simple job in the end, took me about 45 minutes in total, could probably do it in 20 now I know what tools I need, for reference these are:
T25 torx key (sunvisor mount, screws x 4 )
T30 torx key ( plastic frame under the sunroof motor, screws x 3)
#2 Phillips Driver ( sunroof motor, screws x 3 )
10mm socket or spanner ( Aerial fixing bolt/co-ax connector nut)

Everything else is just push or snap fit , eg 'A' pillar trims, Door rubber trim, sunroof opening trim, interior light housing and sunroof control switch housing.

Radio works better now :) .

lol i feel sorry for the people with the sunroofs, i havent got a sunroof and as soon as you take the light out you get straight to the bolt, so a couple of minutes job.

wheres the best place to buy my aerial? both the base and antenna needs replacing, i've looked on ebay and the cheapest seems to be £18 in P&P, a quote for the parts from an italian car parts specialist it £20.00 not including fitting. As I haven't got a sun roof I will try to fit it myself.
help appreciated
