Hi all.

Think I may have a problem with my Lambda sensors on my MK2 1.2 8v Punto.

Are they easy to replace? Can you replace them from inside the engine bay or does the car have to be ramped up to get access to them? Is this a job an amateur like myself can attempt whose handy with a spanner can attempt?

I'm trying to avoid an expensive repair by buying and fitting the parts myself. Have had an expensive month what with a head gasket failure and new exhaust all in one go!

How many sensors do I need, is it 2? any ideas where they can be purchased from\what type I need, I heard they're all standard a fitting but have different amounts of wires 1,2,3,4? Any help appreciated!

Cheers
Ross

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the quick response.

Is it possible to get at the sensors from under the bonnet? I ask as I dont have access to a ramp.

Thanks again
Ross

on a cinq you access it from underneath. i did mine without jacking it up before it was lowered.

on a punto, you might be able to access it from within the engine bay. If you flip your bonnet and look at the exhaust downpipe, where it curves under the car is where the lambda is located. If you can see it and have easy access to it, you might be able to do it from above.

i reckon worst case scenario would be to jack up one side to get a bit extra ground clearance.

the 2 sensors are threaded into the exhaust manifold. disconnect the battery negative. remove the air cleaner assembly. apply handbrake and jack up the front of the car. undo the four bolts securing the heat shield to the exhaust manifold. from under the car undo the 3 nuts securing the heat shield to the catalytic converter, then remove the heat shield from the manifold. disconnect the relevent sensor wiring connector which is on the bellhousing. unscrew the sensor(be careful) then replace with the new sensor to the down pipe and tighten. reconnect the wiring connector. refit the heat shield and air cleaner assembly. connect the battery and hey presto you have done it........easy(ha ha) good luck.
