can anyone tell me how to replace the drivers side outer cv joint on a 1.2 mk2 punto

thanks

done.....:)

for anyone that needs to know:

Removal
1. remove road wheel
2.undo hub nut
3.remove brake caliper and disc
4. crack upper ball joint
5. remove nut/ bolt from lower ball joint
6. remove 2nuts / bolts holding hub to strut
7. lift off hub from bottom ball joint and remove drive shaft
8. unclip cv boot and slide back
9. knock cv joint off drive shaft

Refitting.

reversal of removal...make sure hub nut is torqued up properly

there may be an easier process, however it only took an hour and Ive cleaned everyhing down and greased everthing back up if anything needs removing in the future

To avoid having to renew the hub nut, you can create enough space by simply disconnecting the hub from the wishbone and turning the wheel fully anti-clockwise. This gives you enough to seperate the CV and replace the boot.
That's true but I think he wanted to replaced the actual joint.

Why did you remove caliper and disk?

You don't need to do half of that, can be done in 3 easy steps:

* Remove the driveshaft's hub nut.
* The two bolts connecting the hub to the macpherson strut, slacken the bottom one, remove the top one -- this will allow you to pivot the hub.
* Turn steering fully to the side you're working on.

Driveshaft should now fully extract from the hub without removing any further components and you can now work on your outer CV.

overkill really, but......

everything was a bit rusted up and filthy, so whilst i was geting dug in i thought it better to remove everything clean it all up and put back together with plenty of copper slip and new nuts/bolts where required....now i know everything is in a good state and also when i need to change the brakes, caliper , ball joint, wishbone etc in the future it will be an easy fix

Any chance of pictures along with this? I'm just not sure which bolts it is that needs un-doing. I tried a split boot (wish I never bothered) So now need to do a stretch boot instead.

Don't really want to take the hub nut off

It's the 2 nuts at the base of the shock absorber, coloured red in this picture, remove upper, slacken lower and leave in situ.

Cheers! I did think it was them but wasn't sure, they were FAR too rusted anyways, they crumbled as soon as the socket went on so I just paid to have garage do it in the end!

I prefer to undo the bottom pinch bolt (13mm) and get a very long bar and lever down the track control arm. Hammer usually figures in the equation as well.
