Hey all, there seems to be mixed thoughts on how rear camber should be applied to Mk2/2bs. Some say the washer method others say its dangerous and special plates should me made up. All i plan to survey is who has washers and who has plates so i and others can make an informed decision on which is the best way. So.....if you have camber let me know how you did it. :D

Washers are just dangerous since they reduce the anti-shear strength of the bolts ridiculously due to the fact they are unsupported in the spaced region. There is also a bending force due to the holes not being aligned on the same axis. Opening a poll here asking how many people have used washers will basically just give us evidence as to how many idiots are on the forum.

mucho agreed. I've heard its quite a common thing but was unsure so thought i'd do some research first before bodging it up and risking parts falling off mid corner. :S My dad seems to think pretty much the same as you and i can see where shifting all the stress points could be potentialy dangerous. Soooo... how do you do it safely? Im thinking tapered plates with longer bolts and tapered washers to keep the bolt head flat. What do you reckon?

That sounds pretty sensible to me too. You want to keep all tensional forces along the length of the bolt, with no twisting or unsupported sections. The plate should look like a thin wedge of Swiss cheese with hole cuts for the bolts.

could also machine the backs of the half shafts.

thing is though the people who do rear camber on their puntos seem to be the ones who dont do a lot of driving of it and use mainly for shows an crusies. as a daily driver you may find you are buying new tyres every few months
