[?] Question: I want 17" wheel on my Punto Mk2(6--2003) 1,2 16V SportSound. I went to several shops, but they all tell me 16" is the max.

I searched around and found many pictures with 17" wheels, so it is possible.

Do you have 17" at your Punto Mk2? Please tell me the specifications of the wheels and the size of your tyres.

I HAVE 17'S THEY ARE BK 240'S WITH TOYO 205 40 RUBBER
I WOULDN'T GO WIDER THAN A 7 INCH WIDTH.
I HAVE 5MM SPACERS AT THE REAR FOR PEACE OF MIND BECAUSE IT WILL BE LOWERED SOON BY 35MM.
THERE IS MINOR SCRUBING WHEN I COME OUT OF MY DRIVE ON FULL LOCK BUT GENERALLY NO PROBS DO IT MAN

Ive got 17's on mine too. My car is a 2002 Mia. Tornado's 205/40 Toyo Proxes. Slip straight on thou had to use a washer on the locking bolt to stop scrubage on the rear drum. i went to Smart Car near nottingham and they said 16's max but 15s were the best but then went to wheelmainia down in birmingham and they fitted 1 to show me that they fit but hit a kerb the other day now need 2 new wheels! arrrhhh [!]

whats the max on the mk1?

It really depends on how your arches are, some Mk1s can take 17"s with alomost no problems but generally its best to go for 16"s for a good balance between speed and handling.
