Hello everyone,

My hood latch cable broke today-right at the latch. I just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to open the hood (bonnet). Looks like thge only way is to get at the 2 nuts holding the latch and then to lift the hood with the latch but they are a bugger to get at.
Has anyone done this lovely job? I'm hoping there's a better way.

never looked at one from under neath but can you get to it ??. had a simalr thing happen to a rover 213 i once owned thing that made it worse was the nbonnet sat flush no were to hook fingers under. so put car over a pit fashioned metal bar type thing and worked it up infront of radiator and poked latch lol

hi mate the same thing happened to me a few months ago,but i got a friend who has some ramps to take the radiator off and do it from there it took about 30mins and then you can reach up and pop it from there the new cable cost about £6 hope that helps

Sounds like a plan! I was under the car-we've got a pit built in our garage- and I saw that the rad could be taken off from below but wasn't ready to go that way. Now that I hear that it worked I'm gonna go for it. I hope that I won't have to drain the antifreeze. maybe if i tip it back and down a bit I'll be able to get my hands in there. I guess I'll find out.

if you look through the front grill (with torch) you will see the bonnet catch with two 13mm securing it, use 3\8 drive with 13mm woble socket and extension bar, remove two thirteens then pop the bonnet up, get something to hold bonnet up then release the catch by hand!! any problems please say!!
