I will be servicing my punto for the first time as i want to save money doing it myself rather than giving it to normal garage to do it. I was just wandering how much people pay or would pay for

4 spark plugs
oil filter
air filter
full oil change so guessin either 4 or 5 litres
and collant change so a 4/5 litre bottle

any rough prices would be great

Thanks

I pay £5 a filter for FRAM filters (1 oil and 1 air) and I paid about £10 for oil last time I bought some (was from a cash and carry style place we have access to with my mum being self employed). Coolant I usually buy the ethylene glycol 'pure' coolant from halfords or similar at about £7 and £3 on 5 litres of distilled water.

So for everything but the spark plugs £30!

I would look into flushing the coolant system while you are at it to be honest!

Dont forget the brake fluid. Bleed new fluid through each brake until it runs clean.

And the clutch :)

How many miles since the cam belt was changed? make sure they don't sell you plugs with resistors built in R code on NGK plugs. Plug leads are resistive so unless you have straight wire cored leads avoid resistor plugs, they put too much load on the coils can cause them to fail prematurely.

Cam belts go off on time and mileage. They last better these days but IMHO if its more than 4 years old it needs to go.

Yeah im doing the cambelt, it has never been changed should have done it really as its a 51 plate and has done 60000 miles, ive already brought the cam belt and just need to find time to do it, as for the brakes i as putting new pads on it at the same time so i will be changing the brake fluid over.

A very strong suggestion...

STOP DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL THE BELT IS DONE.

If you want to get a hint of the belt condition, look at the accessory belt. If the rubber is cracking across the grooves you can bet the timing belt will be gradually losing teeth.

Im doing it all this weekend so all will be fine, i haven't looked at the belts to see the condition.

the next question is, is the exhaust meant to make such big bangs, the exhaust has always made banging when people are in the back but i have heard it is a fiat problem, the thing is now it is making bangs when people aren't in the back. if i wobble the exhaust the pipe before the back box easily hits part of the frame. will i need a new exhaust or has some of the mounts/brackets gone.

Another thought -

One guy who tried to start his Punto, when the cam belt had failed, had it backfire through the inlet valves. The fuel in the manifold exploded and blew a chunk out of his inlet manifold.

Search "cam timing"
