First of all, my apologies - I've had a look through search results, but nothing seems to be quite what I'm looking for...

Right, 2 things I'm asking for help with...for my 2000 Punto...

1. Clunk/thud/banging noise when steering at low speed - typically up to 10 mph (very noticeable when using full lock).

Any thoughts on the culprit, and whether it's a simple fix, "just a Fiat thing" or garage job?

2. Squeaky rear o/s wheel...This is almost certainly something to do with the up-and-down motion of the wheel. I did a simple investigation (did last night whilst my Mum was in the chippy lol). It sounded like rubber against plastic - so tightened tool holder/spare wheel...no joy...went round, pushed firmly down in all 4 corners (shocks still doing their jobs) and when I reached offside rear, I found the squeak!!

Again, thoughts and advice please :)

Little more background on the noises: Problem 1 - not sure how long it's been there, but only really noticed it within the last week or so.

Problem 2: Only started very, very recently (few days).

Ohh, I hope there's a simple (and cheap) solution :(

not quite sure but as for number 1 does it do it turning full lock left and right check the CV (constant velocity) joint on the offending wheel and as for two it shouldnt be on a 2000 plate but just check teh wheel bearings wiggle the rear wheels side to side when they are jacked up and see if they can be moved

then again just check there r no under shields hitting anything

problem 1 sounds like it could be 1 of the rubber bushes has split on the supension my car makes that noise but only wen i put full lock on left.

Full/nearly full lock is the only time I get the clunk as well - me thinks I'll go have a look shortly.

Thanks folks

Any other suggestions, please post away :)

Assuming there is no mechanical problem, squeaking rubber bushes on the rear suspension joints are a familiar problem in dry weather. Liberal spraying with WD40 or equivalent may help.

If the front suspension clunks over bumps it could be worn bottom ball joints. If its only on full lock while driving it could be the wheel hub CV joint. But they usually tend to go click-click rather than clunk.

Squeak could be handbrake cable mounts, located just before rear wheel arches. Dousing in WD40 solves for a few months.

Shouldn't that have been picked up at MOT, at least as an advisory note if not completely knackered? I'm curious as the car had it's MOT a few days before I picked it up?? (About a month ago, pretty sure the clunk was there then as well)
