My airbag warning light is on and has been since i bought this car.
The dealer I got it off said it's a common fault easily rectified.

I'm looking for any common causes of this fault so I can check for them.

I am in a Mk2 Punto 8v 3dr with 2 airbags as far as I know passenger and driver's, no seat airbags etc.

I think mine is something to do with a part under the passenger seat

a "pretensioner"??

Hi, a dealer told me that most of the time a simple fix works on the main cable under the seat for the seat airbag if thats the problem.. where you just carefully pull the connector apart.. 1 side at a time so it doesnt get mixed up... make sure the connectors are properly pushed in because apparently they can pop out slightly sometime giving a bad connection.. reassemble and re-connect.. then fold the cable from the main loom over the connector and tape together.

If you dont feel competant enough to try this, because it is airbags i advise its left to propely trained technician, also remember to leave the battery disconnected for a while before doing anything with the airbags to avoid accidental detonation.

was guna ask that, wasnt sure about disconnecting battery whilst doing it
If its just a case of that i may have a look. it will save some money

I currently have airbag warning light on mine too, came on after the battery went flat.

I rummaged around looking for an Airbag cable under the passenger seat and drivers seat but couldn't see one - certainly nothing connected to the seat. All the yellow airbag wiring seems to be behind the dashboard.

Where is the cable if under the seat?

Again Mk2 punto with driver and passenger front airbags only.

i had this when i got my car it started on my test drive they fixed it in 5mins

Does no-one read people's posts before replying?

No seat airbags= No seat airbag wiring!

natemkii- common faults are a poor connection with the passenger airbag, and issues with the exclusion switch which requires a small modified loom (Dealer fit only). Get the error code read and save messing around, as there's many parts to the airbag system- any of which can cause the warning light to come on.

midget4hire- The belt pretensioner is built into the reel (in the 'b' pillar, not under the seat).

once i stuffed my glovebox and airbag light appeared. Check those contacts

gonna check over connections tommorow. got the haynes so it should help.

trying to avoid getting the code read, i've seen elsewhere that garages charge about £40 for that and I'm saving up for bestival!!

still need to go to garage to put light out.

I never said belt pretensioner
I misread the post in the first place, my bad

for all of u in the forum: why buy fiat cars ? i am one of employees in pharmacutical company in egypt we take 90 cars of punto classic model 2009 and alot of us found alot problems in cars :
1- alot of defaults inside the body of car
2- when we on the aircodition all the power of car is sweched off
3- some of us : airbag light on
4- 3 of us have accedents but airbage not opened
so fiat models in egypt with low quality and not buy , the chiness , koreian cars in egypt with hiph quality than fiat.

The belt pretensioner is the only 'pretensioner' in the car. There isn't one at the stalk.

The initial comment wasn't aimed squarely at you.

im sure if we used camels as transport here we would have similar issues

lol - problems with stiff suspension....not taking the correct turn when signaling......air con does not seem to work as well and there is no user manual!
