just brought a punto and i dont know what the city button is for? i have pressed it and lights up on my dashboard but i dnt have a clue what its for?

chill ya beans its late lol im tired! i find this whole fiat forum helpful and quite funny, everyone with fiats unite! i did ask my driving instructor if she knew what it did, but she didnt.

Nothing useful. Given the fact the steering is too light on the mk2 why make it lighter? I could easily feel the road on the old mk1 but not with this thing.

Makes it easier for parking. I use it when parking it tight gaps as it means you can turn the wheel quicker and easier.

i have a 2001 mk2 and the steering isnt light at all even if i press the city button it stays the same..do u know what the problem is ??:S

The city button not only lightens the steering wheel, it effects the engine too.

I can't remember exactly how it works but it lets the car crawl forward without using the accelerator, just using the clutch, and the car doesn't struggle.

Only, make sure you only use it when needed as it wears out the already dodgy electric steering motor.

Also as a side note: the effects of the city button automatically cut off after 28mph even if the dash light is still on.

This guy knows his shizzle! I'm giving you thanks, it's pointless to me but you gave a great post :D

i dont have any changes after click on that button - does that mean my electric steering motor is gone? is actualy electric motor? any othere comon faults?

What year and model do you have?

When you put the key in the ignition and turn it but before the starter motor engages, all the various warning lights come on as a test, you should see one is a red 3 spoke steering wheel, if you don't have this then there is a problem with the electric power steering, it probably means the whole system has been dissabled to hide a fault else where.

If this is working then when you press the city button with the engine started and running you should see a green 'city' light on the dash and the steering should become noticeably lighter.

Some very early models did not have the city function just the standard power steering, if you car falls into this category it may mean someone has fitted a button at a later date that really does do nothing

Its 2002 Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V manual.
Before turning engine on there comes up red steering wheel symbol and after its going off. While engine is of i can puch city button and on instrument panel display comes up city sysmbol/name - i dont feel that steering wheel would work different
