I remember seeing this mentioned before, but I've tried searching and haven't found anything :(

When I use my front wipers, I also get a wee squirt of water from the rear. When used on it's own, the rear works fine - it just also gets a scoosh when I use the front.

Obviously there must be a valve or something where the front and rear pipes go their separate ways, but where is it. I don't think that it's a non-return valve problem.

if your getting water out of the rear when the front is operated then it must be only a 1 pump system, im not exactly sure how these pumps work but i assume as they get older something wears allowing pressure to the rear? doesnt sound like a non-return valve problem, as when they go, the water takes ages to get to the jets, hope that helps a little

apparently theres a spring valve somewhere to differentiate from front and back just need to work your way along the pipes and find it, its either buggered or needs a clean. lucky your rear washers actually working!

Hi mate,

If your talking about the Mk2 or 2b, then there are two separate pipes coming from the pump which has two separate outputs. One for the front, one for the rear. Therefore it will be the pump that needs replacing/cleaning. They are cheap and easy to do, but if its only a trickle, I dunno if I would bother.

You access the water bottle and pump assemble by removing the passenger side wheel arch liner and then remove the 3 10mm bolts that secure the reservoir to the chassis leg. The Pump itself is simply clipped into the reservoir. Pull it out and replace with a new one.

You could try giving it a clean first as they can get gummed up.

Hope that helpls
Alan

Think the pumps are similar if not the same between the 2 models, take the pump out and have a look if you can, should be a twin outlet pump, if it is then thats where the fault will probably be, you could try cleaning it and seeing if that helps, and id try that first, then maybe try a new pump
