Not the usual windscreen wiper problem!!!!

Have got punto 52 plate which has suddenly decided to give me some problems.
the windscreen wiper refuses to work on single wipe or fast wipe (one up or three down on the control arm) have checked fuse cleaned and checked motor and checked relay all appear fine. have i missed something or is the general thought that it is the actual control arm that is goosed. anyone got any ideas!!!!! if this is thought to be the problem how do i get off the steering wheel with an airbag as i'm ugly enough and dont fancy a broken nose!!! the steering wheel is the one that comes on a fiat punto sport active. wiper problem is doing my nut in ----help-----

Hi mate, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

Its likely that it will be the control stalk. Theres a few tests you can do once you get the control unit off if you have a multimeter.

With regards to removing the air-bag, if your not experienced or confident in doing it, then i would say don't, as im sure your aware they can cause very nasty injuries if they deploy accidentally. If you do have a go then, disconnect the battery, and leave it for at least half hour to an hour before attempting to remove the airbag.

Hope that helps,
Alan

No problem mate,

I forgott to actually say, to rempve the airbag, after disconnecting the battery and waiting, there are two screws at the rear of the steering wheel. Undo these, move the aribag forwards slightly, then carefully disconnect the wiring multi-plug at the rear of the airbag. Carfully place airbag somewhere out of the way and not ontop of something hot.

ALSO, DON NOT RECONNECT THE BATTERY OR TURN IGNITION ON untill the airbag is fully reconnected. Otherwise the airbag failure light will come on.

Despite all that, I assume no responsibiliy should you rearange your face due to premature airbag deployment. lol

cheers again mate. would you know if i could take the arm off without removing the steering wheel look like there is a phillips screw that i may be able to romve with an improvised bent screwdriver

Unfortunately you need to remove the steering wheel. Both sides (ie lights on the left, and wipers on the right) form one big unit.

It turned out to be the control stalk, motor is fine - for now. another stalk from e bay cost a tenner and easy to replace although as stated care to be taken with air bag. cheers for all your help:)
