Please help.... I got a 2005 (54) Active Sport 16V and my handbreak light keeps coming on, when driving, and then going back of....

Now, i know its not the break fluid level, as i have checked that, and my breakpads are fine.... Could it be the sensor in the breakfluid tank... ??

Any help would be great!!!!

i had a similar problem in my old car, it seemed that the brake fluid wasn't going down but i checked the inside of the rear wheels where you can see the drum and it turned out the cylinders were faulty and were leaking fluid from there. the light went on and off from time to time and the brakes worked till one morning they stopped and the handbrake light stayed on. so give it a look there and see if you see anything

Thanks matey, went and had a look at back drums, and all looked okay hmmmm

ah well, if ya find out what it is post it up cos i was looking there and you car looks identical to mine so there would be no harm in knowing (y)

I had the same problem and it just got worse one day. It turned out to be a damaged dreak fluid pipe behind the engine.

Also check the handbrake switch (but this would normally bring up the "beep" warning as well) as well as the fluid level sensor. There is a test button on the sensor/cap. Push the button to check if the light comes on. If it does, that doesn't mean that the problem is not the sensor. Drive the car with the sensor unplugged and see if the light returns...

Monitor your fluid levels anyway, as you wouldn't want to run out of braking when you need to stop!

okay.. i unpluged the wire that plugs into the breakfluid tank, and the light has gone away...... i take it that wire is for the sensor.... Sooo im just gona leave it like that, and make sure i keep it topped up.

warning lights and sensors are there for a reason. plus its probabily an MOT failure anyway.

Id fit/have a new sensor fitted then if you suddenly develop a leak when driving you will get some a warning and hopefully have enough fluid left to stop safely.

Well i will, but money's a bit tight atm, soo its just going to have to wait a bit.... As i need two new tyers and service is due.... So after them, its that......

Have you pulled the little filter out at the top just to make sure that the fluid is actually getting down into the chamber?

Had the same issue on my wife's 04 plate and I thought that the reservoir was full only to find out that it was nearly at minimum following the fitting of new rear shoes.
