Oh what an eventful journey I've just been on. Clutch slave cylinder has just spat its piston out :( but prior to that I had some weird engine troubles aswell. Are the two related?

Ill start from the beginning... I drove to tesco, stuck £20 in, then drove straight to my mates. As I turned into his road, i pressed to clutch to change down a gear but could hear the engine was still revving around 2 to 3k. I kept the clutch held down and after a couple seconds the revs dropped and the engine stalled. I coasted to the side of the road and pulled up. Restarted the engine, no problems. Played with the throttle a bit and the engine was behaving normally. I suspected maybe the TPS was perhaps a bit dirty.
So I pick up my mate and we drive to my girlfriends. The car was occasionally doing the same thing on the way there. Also i thought it felt like it was sometimes giving it a little throttle while driving even with my foot off the accelerator, but i may have imagined this as thats what i was expecting to happen.
So we get to my girlfriends and i remember i have my code reader still in the car - plugged it in and no codes. I was going to try start it again, but as i pressed the clutch, it went 'clunk' and the pedal dropped to the floor. Took a look under the bonnet and the slave cylinder has spat its rod out.

Now i was initially thinking maybe the two were related... Clutch not disengaging properly and so causing the engine to continue revving while the clutch was down, but there wasn't any gear crunching and i can't think of why that would cause it to stall.

The clutch has always been quite stiff and you have to put the pedal right flat to the floor to disengage fully, which could have been why the rod slipped off the clutch arm and shot out - lots of pressure behind it.

So it looks like new clutch and new cylinder, but could the engine behaviour be related or a seperate problem? What could have caused the clutch to be so stiff?

MK2 1.2 8v btw.

clutch being heay anf the cylinder having a plastic rod so fairly straight forward there

need a new cylinder

and best to get a new clutch you'll thank yourself when you can release it with one finger

the revving is most likely separate fault and as you said will be the tps

but you cant do anything about it other than replace it fiat will sell you one and have the tools required to fit it as it is press fit in the throttle body you could probably manage it with simple tools just leather it out and carefully put new one in

it's a common thing

and there is a service news about it that fits your symptoms perfectly

the tps sensor is about 15 quid iirc
