I have a T reg punto 1.2 petrol.....

Within the dial which displays the fuel level i keep getting a red circle warning light come on. its about 2 inches above the temperature lamp.

I have no idea what this light represents.

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks in advance

Tom.

Its your temp light, its in a stupid place i know above and right of the temp symbol, but its where the needle would be pointing if you had a temp gauge. Check your coolant, hopefully you wont have warped the head.

cheers StevenRB45 .

I checked my coolant and there is sufficient. I have noticed that the radiator fan is not coming on anymore.

Is there a way to test the fan when stationary.

Thanks for the help.

also there is no heat from the interior fans , always blowing cold.

could this indicate the thermostat is knackered.

Overheating and no heat from the blowers is usually a sign of a head gasket failure was there any sign of oil in the coolant when you checked it? Is there any sign of oil and water mixing on the dipstick? When does the light come on? If it comes on when the vehicle is moving at speed the chances of it being a cooling fan related issue are low as the air passing through the vehicle should be sufficient for cooling and its more likely to be a headgasket. If it only illuminates when the car has been stationary it could well be your cooling fan although if that was the case then your heater should be capable of cooking you alive rather than blowing cold.

you have pretty much confirmed my worst nightmare.
the warning light comes on whilst the car is moving but only after a time.

about 10 mins of driving.

Checked the oil today and there doesn't seem to be any mayonnaise like substance.

well guess its the scrapyard for the old punto.

is there anything i can do to limit the damage and maybe get a few mnore weeks out of it.? other than not driving it lol

Get a compression test or a sniff test done or do one yourself (don't ask me how i'm not a tech) that will confirm if its a head gasket failure.
If you are dead set on sending it to the knackers yard could keep the coolant topped up, drive it gently only use it for short trips with time to cool in between and see how it goes but not recommended in any way FIRE engines are all alloy so do not like to be overheated and the head will warp summat rotten also if you run it too long it will overheat, cut out and you'll have no brakes or powersteering, no real way to limit the damage other than to fix the problem so if theres any chance of you wanting to keep it DO NOT DO THIS. Also old punto?..its newer than mine ;)

I wouldn't be to quick to scrap it. Think carefully before making a choice, you would probably be able to sell the car, here or on ebay.

I would make absolutely sure its your head gasket before doing anything.

Turned out it was low on coolant.

Topped it up when the engine was running gave the pipes a squeeze and hay presto no more warning light.

Could have been an air lock or the thermostat.

Just have to get the sump fixed and new spark plugs.

Thanks for the good advice.
